I am told by a devout muslim friend that it isn't even 72 virgins. That's a deliberate mis-translation put out by the Wahabbis in Saudi to attract gullible idiots to the cause. It's actually 72 of the clearest and purest sultanas/raisins. And not even chocolate covered at that!!

Apparently the arabic for virgin and raisin are very similar. Any Arabic speakers care to confirm or deny?

I was in the belief that the 72 'whatevers' were supposed to be servants - perhaps written as something akin ti 'hand maidens' and then perverted to be virgins (who are clearly gagging for it, if you are of a martyrdom hankering).

It still comes down martyrdom being a selfless act. Wanting to die in order to get your side order of promised sexual playthings for eternity is clearly not a selfless act.
