Life found on Mars?!
Discussion
Every planet or moon that we are likely to explore for life will have been contaminated by the first landers we send, so if (when) we find life, we won't know if it's indigenous, or evolved from the stuff we sent.
Well, unless it's so different from 'life as we know it', in which case we probably won't recognise it.

Considering that the Universe is vast beyond comprehension and that we don't know how it came to be, it would be pretty naive, I feel, to assume that Earth is the only place within it inhabited by life.
In short; I would be shocked if we are alone in the Universe. Now bearing that in mind, I am equally excited and terrified by the possibilities.

Yep, the universe will be literally teeming with life of so many varieties we probably won't even know it when we see it.In short; I would be shocked if we are alone in the Universe. Now bearing that in mind, I am equally excited and terrified by the possibilities.

We always talk about goldilocks zones, but that is for life like we have no earth. No mention of life that may exist in other multi-state liquid environments. Or other things even stranger to our perceptions of life again.
Our description of what life is will have to be significantly widened as time goes on and we discover more things that make sense only once we are exposed to them and our lack of imagination is overcome by strange realities.

To put things in perspective, we think we're so advanced and clever but we don't even know for sure what's at the bottom of our deepest oceans. - New species are being discovered all the time. Hell, we can't even find a missing Airbus! - We're more interested in who won X-Factor or whatever's the latest crap to come out of a celebretard's mouth. We always talk about goldilocks zones, but that is for life like we have no earth. Hell we can't even tell the difference between an Airbus and a Boeing 777 If we do find life on Mars, how long will it be before Greenpeace and the UN declare the whole planet a fragile ecosystem and make it off-limits to further exploration?
We should be engineering terraforming lifeforms to get the place ready for summer holidays, and to hell with the indigenous microbes.

I seem to remember reading a story, probably by Asimov, about a mining operation on Europa (the moon, not the car), who discover sentient beings living under the ice. The management decide to keep it quiet to avoid getting environmental groups involved, and basically, they poison the water so the problem goes away and doesn't affect their businesses model. We should be engineering terraforming lifeforms to get the place ready for summer holidays, and to hell with the indigenous microbes.

There is every chance we're looking at aliens every day and just not realising it.
Only our imagination limits our ability to see potential alien life.
