There's something very wrong with mutual sycophancy.

JAYB will do a fine job, and better than Charles & Wills.

Maybe a typo for JayZ?

Better qualified than those dimwits in Buck House.

She really should go.

She's eighty eight and there has to be a point to stop.

Would those who say otherwise be happy to see her die in the middle of some long public ceremony after standing or walking for hours? What happens if she starts showing signs of dementia while talking to another head of state?

Retirement is what all her subjects do two decades earlier.

If Charles became King tomorrow he could quit at seventy, still older than most retirees, after four years in the job. Then straight to Wills with a new "retire at 65" rule in place.

I'm no royalist but I will be genuinely emotional the day she dies, not so much if she abdicates because the old girl deserves a rest.
It's the fact that in my 48 years of life she has always been there, on my bank notes, on the news etc, I'm English, I'm from the UK, I'm proud of it, she is all of that irrespective of whether we need a monarchy or not, I grew up with the lady always there in my life.

Also I watched the speech this year and couldn't help notice that she seemed to lip quiver and the end, and appeared to have water in her eyes. May be her last xmas speech?

Well said.

I also served and met a number of the Royals over the time - They fully understand the notion of 'Duty', unlike any of the politicians I've met. I believe the UK would be far poorer if we didn't have the Windsors.

There really is no need, the generations are known, the succession is known and increasingly she is doing much less and the younger generations are doing more. There are very few things she has to do herself.

If we have to have an elected Head of State, can I nominate Brian Blessed?

You could surgically implant a megaphone, and I would love him to be King/President when Mr G Brown was in power and went to see him......

I hope she goes soon.

I rather like TRF to be a source of amusement and ridicule. Brenda's been no fun since that 'annus horiblis' joke. Comb-over Boy, in contrast, has got excellent comedy potential.
