Sony Kowtowing to North Korea

Something else is going on here we aren't finding out about yet.
Either,A. The US government has intelligence of a genuine threat if the film is shown.
B. The hackers have got their hands on some very sensitive documents exposing Sony's part in the New World Order conspiracy.
C. The US government is leveraging the hell out of the situation in order to further it's own political aims.

My shilling would be on 'C'A. The US government has intelligence of a genuine threat if the film is shown.

This is bull crap, why are Sony bowing down to the little shti?
Because he is psychopathic dictator with a huge standing army, weaponry and who is now in command of a pretty good set of hackers. Sony are Japanese, Japan has a bit of "previous" with Korea and China. China has fat boys back, Japan are currently trying to thaw relations with China. So what should a private company do? Say FU KJU and risk, at best, destruction of their company, at worst, a major incident amongst the three (or four if you want to throw the USA into the equation) countries that are currently in dispute? Of course they should back down, the responsibility for dealing with nutters like KJU should be dealt with at international level not by a private company. That's what they pay tax for.pork911 said:

I concur, put up or shut up. If you're not willing to explain how it's offensive you'll just have to kowtow to all of us.
This better be good...
as good for you as your happiness in total ignorance? probably notThis better be good...
even the fount of all PH knowledge wikipedia gives a slight introduction but of course froth mouthed posters demand packaged enlightenment to 'disprove' their entirely uninformed yet fixed opinion
ah well, hardly a surprise really
If you have to consult an article which doesn't really explain why it *might* be offensive you're definitely clutching at straws.
So, humour my ignorance, pretty please, with sugar on top, explain the fking insult.

The OP meant subservience which is entirely appropriate and a correct use of grammar.

Actually, I'd be more interested to hear why the OP chose to use that particular word in the first place.
OP, care to comment?
Obviously I am not the OP and they will have their reasons but I have to say that it is a word I use quite often along with phrases such as "bowing to their demands" "capitulation" and "doing exactly what they ask, regardless of the negative implications of doing so".OP, care to comment?
If I had started this thread I would quite likely have used the same word or something like "Sony bow to pressure from PRNK."

I'd say "subservience" is entirely inappropriate in this context. We still don't know exactly what is going on, who or what is behind it, or what other parties might be involved and indeed why.My guess is that he used it because he thought it was somehow appropriate to the nationalities of the two parties in the thread title, if Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. is to be considered 'Japanese' and the PRK are truly behind the hacking.
Given the historical - and ongoing - situation between Japan and Korea/PRK/ROK, I'd say that the OP might at the very least have been a little more careful in choosing his words.
Sony is categorically not 'kowtowing' to North Korea.
A quick skim via Google suggests that to Kowtow was the act of going down on both knees and touching one's head to the floor, either as an act of religious worship or "as an act of supplication by an inferior to a superior".
It seems to be Chinese in origin.
Only the professionally offended or hard-of-thinking would somehow twist its use here into some sort of slight against the Koreans/Japanese, although it seems Pork911 may fit both of those descriptions so no surprises here. I eagerly await a Confucius-esque reply containing something about ignorance, something else about being happy with the use of the word in the context of the OP, but nothing of any actual substance. Oh no wait a minute - I don't care.
Anyway, back on topic; I'm veering more towards this being Sony seeking to drive huge publicity for what might actually be a real stinker of a film, and yet even in this mind-set I might be tempted to have a watch to see what the fuss is about. the thought of this being some sort of honey-trap to capture a NK hacking cell is far more interesting though

Nope, definitely not offensive unless you're grammatically or comprehensionally challenged. It seems to be Chinese in origin.

Fer fks sake, lighten up, it's like the first form here sometimes.
Sony should 'leak' the film and blame hackers, then we could all not see it and be unoffended whilst Kim Yung Buffoon can carry on being the King of Siam without being able to fly planes into cinemas.
Be interesting that, see who hacked it get hacked off if it were not Kim the unbelievabley astute. If it were hacked.Sony should 'leak' the film and blame hackers, then we could all not see it and be unoffended whilst Kim Yung Buffoon can carry on being the King of Siam without being able to fly planes into cinemas.
