I've taken my best shot at a sincere answer to your direct question, so here's a serious question for you smegmore: Are you comfortable with the thinly-disguised sentiments clearly evident in the margins of this thread?
:snip:

I honestly believe you're sincere in your musings on the subject but...I also think you're being a tad precious when you berate posters who, without malice aforethought, express themselves in their native English tongue.

I dare say there are many eastern expressions or epithets which, if translated into English, would be considered derogatory by Brits, but, meh, who cares, the joy of the spoken word, what? smile

I really cannot believe how twisted this country has become due to interpretations of ways of expressing oneself.
I was born and bred in a genuinely multi racial country, not this country of anguished self flagellation.
I am white, but my first language was Chinese, as my parents were too busy, but their servants were not. My parents were quite happy with this as they considered it made me better than them, to be naturally multi lingual.
My first friends were the chinese and malay children of my parents servants because out in the sticks of Malayasia, that is who lived there. I loved my life out there. British people (I am one) who get all upset in the UK are just so stupid about so-called racism they are destroying their own culture.
I get the feeling most of the real men of Britain were killed in the two World Wars, and left behind the pitiful excuses we see on here, the adonoidal whiney buck toothed types.

So it's racistperhaps unwise to use it in this context because it's a worddeeply loaded concept of Chinese origin being used in the context of 2 different Asian countries which both understand its connotations far better than someone from the west midlands?
There, how's that? Are you open to the idea of being steered in the right direction?
No because that way lies madness.

You're just making up reasons to be offended for others.
You see PZR, your ramblings have made me agree with Mr Wolf and that is an odd situation.

I have a large amount of Chinese and Vietnamese clients and friends. There is no racist connotations with the word.

You are assuming that because a word of Chinese origin is being used people in ither Asian countries will be offended. Isn't that highly racist?

It wouldn't surprise me if Sony were in on it after getting their dirty laundry aired (or did they mastermind thing whole thing and everyone is in on it??). I've been privy to a number of engineered situations in regards to marketing, some have worked brilliantly, some haven't. The ones that worked well were printing money. I think Sony are foaming at the mouth waiting to push the button and release this to clean up.

On a relatively small ($40m?) budget and without showing the film they've managed to:

- Make virtually the entire planet aware of an unreleased film spending £0 in the process
- Have the U.S President making global news by commenting on the situation
- Keep this in rolling 24hr news for over a week
- Drive demand for a film to where people who wouldn't have seen it will actively go out to watch it

Yes, I like a good conspiracy theory.
Understandable theory but I can assure you unfortunately 100% incorrect.

I've been highly sceptical of North Korea being behind this for some time. Don't get me wrong I'm no fan of the DPRK, indeed I consider them a despicable despotic kratocracy of the worse kind. I'm also not suggesting they do not have the capability or motivation. They do and 'cyber crime' is actually their only real source of foreign currency. However they are just not media savvy enough to carry this off.

I think the film "The Interview" is a red herring, a distraction that wasn't even mentioned in the first blackmail email sent to Sony. The biggest enemies of the Movie Industry and Studio are hacktivists who hated them with a vengeance and have been targeting them for years.

An examination of the 'hack' shows many of the hallmarks of black hat hacktivists. A brute force password penetration. Releases and 'press' statements on paste bin, the 'pirate' unreleased films made available on torrents. Even the garish style of the goading is hacktivist.

They have offered to help and they do say they will not use torture as the CIA will.

But that does get me thinking, where do the leads take the authorities and on what evidence?

Never thought of this, wonder if could be scientifically investigated. A tabulation of the number of brave, strong, stoic people (not just men) who were killed before they could pass on the genes.
Would make a wonderful PHD paper.

No sure if irony or serious?

What about the pitiful defence of Malaysia and Singapore by spineless colonial ex-pats.

That's your little fantasy in your head, and that's where it should stay.

I'm taking no responsibility for it. wink

90% who served in WWI returned alive, much more than that in WWII and I'm guessing they weren't all adenoidal whiney buck toothed types. Always good to hear from some else who lived on a plantation though; selamat pagi.

Erm... Can I just clarify that when I said kowtowing is a phrase that should never, ever be used, I meant because it's a really annoying word. Not because it's offensive, which it patently isn't.

Ok ta.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that as well as all the normal people, this forum attracts some absolute weirdos.

Offensive? My arse.
