Your point about the teaching of History is well made, although to assume teaching is the same as reading is perhaps over simplification. Teaching History in our schools does what you say it does, or at least used to. Wars and conflicts resulted in changes that caused major sociological changes in populations and governments which then gave rise to altered views on the world, useful to note the beginning of new eras. Since when has schools teaching any subject been the end of education? On the other hand, to read History gives a more complete understanding for those who want a truer picture than the superficial. History is bursting with examples of the self-sacrifice and magnificent achievements of Man than you suggest.
I had a history teacher who was inspirational. His last lesson with me was in 1962 but I've retained a fascination in the subject all my life. I buy and read more history books that any other subject. I had to learn dates and dynasties, but even so, he took us along the route of effects.

Modern TV is moving along the right lines, with lots more on the social side.

My history teacher told us that 'Everything I'm going to teach you is wrong. I know this because everything I was taught was wrong.'

It was a difficult concept to grasp, as Hen VIII had six wives and there was no way of contradicting it. But as the lessons went by I gradually got to understand what he meant. Now, when I read my books, I know that most/all of it is make believe, and just an interpretation.

I was watching QI and the question came up, How many wives did Hen VIII have. The logic, getting it down to just one, was tortuous and easily challenged, but it brought Mr Howles, my history teacher, to mind immediately. Even on such basics he was proved spot on.

My history teacher was Welsh. Consequently all world history had a Welsh flavour. I even thought of the Romans having a heavy Pontyridd accent. After I left I read history to give me the admittedly biased view of other authors until I read about the victor being the writer of the history. But I had a science teacher, Bill Cook, who insisted on his first name being used. He was inspirational and instilled a lifelong interest. If only they could bottle that magic.

History is just His Story.

We say we study history as to not repeat the mistakes of the past, but we tend to only look at one side of the story.

The one thing history teaches us is that we never learn from it.

I have a theory that the more history you read the more sceptical you become about the motives of the ranters and glib 'opinion formers'. That serves you rather well when listening to contemporary know-alls.

That's a brave thing to say as he has yet to be convicted. I'm guessing you have nothing to lose should he sue you,....?

Not a lot. I did add the alleged bit though.

No, probably not.

To be fair, it does seem a very strange one. He always seemed to be one of the most straight forward of the dragon crowd and if you were to ask "guess which dragon has been accused of fiddling?" he'd probably be last on the list.

Bit of an odd thing to say.

Peter and Theo are committed family men, the Scottish guy is a bit of a player and has many public liaisons with good looking gals, and I don't pick Deborah Meaden as being a "friend of Savile" either....

To be fair, Savile is unusual in that he looked and acted in a creepy kind of paedo way. Most paedo's arrested look like 'normal' people.

Almost as if the pictures are picked to match the story?

I don't hang around with paedos in my day to day life. The only time I ever see them is on/in the news.

Where else do you suggest I look for them? Do you know any?

I'll leave you to discover how you can gather a sufficient sample of specific sexual offence offenders in order for there to be statistical validity to conclude or not whether they all 'look like paedos'.

In other words you haven't got an answer.

Paedos look like paedos.
