What would you say the defining physical characteristics were ?
An erect penis when near children.Do you test women for strap ons or is your research confined only to male crotches ?

Only male crotches at the moment. Its easier.
Especially with my vast experience of dealing with cocks on here.
There was a similar paedophile ring in Belfast involving military, law enforcement and political figures.
A military intelligence officer was been ordered to stop investigating the allegations of abuse at the home (Kincora Boy's Home)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kincora_Boys%27_Home
Against the victim's and many other peoples wishes, the alleged abuse did not come under The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).

'll leave you to discover how you can gather a sufficient sample of specific sexual offence offenders
In other words you haven't got an answer.Paedos look like paedos.
I was attached to a VISOR department in a large force for a while. I also went to a different force to see how they'd mapped their offenders on some geographical software. So I've probably probably seen well over 1000 sexual offence offenders, plus all the others in the course of normal duties.
Most looked like 'regular' people, and I'll take that over your brilliant 'what I've seen in the media' rubbish. At least the intelligence of your posting is consistent across topics.

"The man who sparked Scotland Yard’s £2 million VIP sex abuse inquiry after claiming to have been raped and tortured by a group of prominent public figures is a convicted paedophile himself, it can now be revealed.
Carl Beech, 51, who was known as Nick throughout the Operation Midland investigation, was convicted of making and possessing indecent images of young boys and of voyeurism earlier this year.
On the second day of his trial for perverting the course of justice and fraud at Newcastle Crown Court, the jury was told that Northumbria police had found the child porn images on various devices when they were investigating him on suspicion of lying about his own abuse."

"A man told police a false "extraordinary tale" about a group of powerful figures who sexually abused and murdered boys, a court has heard.
Carl Beech, 51, is accused of lying about "three child murders, multiple rapes, kidnapping, false imprisonment and widespread sexual abuse".
His claims led to a £2m Metropolitan Police investigation, which ended with no further action being taken."

If paedos ran around with dirty anoraks, straggly beards and reactolite glasses it would be a good thing, as they’d be easier to spot. The fact that they look like any regular person is what makes them so dangerous. In fact, the more people that opine that paedophiles have a certain look, the easier it is for “normal” looking sex offenders to continue.

They look like scout leaders, vicars, teachers, football coaches, youth workers... because if you want to abuse children it's easier if you are in close contact with them.2Btoo said:
Indeed.
However the rabid witch-hunt that was prompted by this man's false allegations speaks ill both of the man and those who were seemingly keen to dig dirt on establishment figures. The latter seems to me to be the bigger worry.
In the want to 'do good' following the lack of any investigation into Jimmy Saville it appears a large number of innocent people have been smeared with a very stty stick, with any trial by media completed long before the police have done their work, and no number of press 'corrections' on page 4 will remove that stain. We do have funny laws in this country which allow the person making accusations to remain anonymous, yet the accused are known sometimes before they've even been arrested (Cliff Richard), let alone had any guilty convictions.
