That's the consortium's problem at the moment. There isn't the money, yet. Transport for London has been told that it can 'only' contribute £10m, rather than the £30m it had earmarked for the scheme. Most of the balance of £165m will need to come from the private sector.

Work starts early next year, apparently. I'll believe it when I'm mugged on it.

I don't see the problem - the High Line park in New York is similar in concept and is a wonderful place to visit.

It'll be close for corporate events as required; closed at night; no cycling etc across it, and will be policed by private security running its own byelaws with power to fine as they see fit.

Complete waste of money in the wrong location and with no practical benefit to London.

Someone somewhere will be getting rich from this.

Sell the Old War Office to developers, buy historically meaningless vanity project.

They should make crossers ay a small fee (50p?) by tapping in their Oystercard (or £5 for tourists) - that should keep it a bit more 'tranquil'.

Utter cobblers. £175 million!

That fills in a lot of potholes - nationwide.

A good idea really, just needs to be quadruple the width. Not sure it would stand out enough as a landmark in its current guise.

It looks like a scene from "Life After People". Abandon any Bridge in London for 20 years and bosh... £175 million saved.

What makes it even more unforgivable is that Sergeant Pepper was the first album I ever bought.

I like it... sorry.

It works really well in New York with their 'High Line' garden walk.

http://www.thehighline.org/about

Although it was a renovation rather than brand new build. But either way, its a great attraction and wonderful way to tour that side of the city. I'm sure that cost a lot as well.

Waste of money blah blah tax payers blah blah... all still contribute to London still being the best city in the world (I don't live there) and a fantastic place to visit and bring vacation $$. The sum of the parts of London add up to something greater, and this kind of thing is another part of that.
