Esther McVey called at my old Mum in laws this afternoon. At 88 she likes to ask questions and she did just that and Esther was very polite and very honest in her replies. She asked her about this Salmon fella and as she was leaving after about 15mins Esther McVey commented to her colleague that my mum in law knew far more than most of them in parliament. She already had her vote anyway and didn't need to spend time but I am very impressed that she spent time and genuinely engaged with her.
Plus one for Esther not someone who I had a lot of time for before.

What about Lab/Con?
Zero chance, barring a world war breaking out on 8 May. You have to bear in mind the capacity for a *massive* loss of Labour voters if Labour were to get into bed with the Cons, and vice versa. The downside of a grand coalition for each partner is potentially huge.
In a financial meltdown each major party has (had) a completely different idea of how to deal with the problem. In the case of war, economic considerations drop down the list of priorities in favour of a single objective: defeat the enemy.
What happens if nobody wants to be in government on the terms that they have on offer? Can the Queen force something? Immediate 2nd GE?
If he believes that no one can form a Govt capable of getting its business through the chamber, he advises her to call another election. Unlike the Dutch monarch who has far reaching powers to directly influence the formation of a coalition Govt, our monarch has very little leeway

Look, it's a bit of a rubbish policy, but the HAs will be compensated, so it's hardly confiscation. It's also a minor thing, unlike the Labour and SNP plans to borrow their way to another big bust.
Its no different to land grabs by countries like zimbabwe where the owners are paid "compensation"Its redistribution of wealth is it not?
Are you really going to keep deluding yourself that there are no Marxist principles in this policy?
Can someone explain to me exactly what is green about cutting the term of copyright to 17 years?
I think the basis problem I have with the greens is that they could focus on what I (rightly or wrongly) consider to be"green", eg recycling, changing planning to encourage renewable use etc (ignoring arguments about it pls), yet they get a single MP and go billy big balls, deciding they need a policy about everything which seems largely to be driven by committee with no subject matter expertise, hence the contradictions and stupidity within the manifesto.

Why did she sell some privately owned property to someone using taxpayer funds
Or was she more likely to privatise state holdings, let me think about that for a moment
So now we have Bus drivers , Plumbers and Brick layers all retiring owning their own homes with a nice privste pension to suppliment their state pension. What an Evil witch she was.Or was she more likely to privatise state holdings, let me think about that for a moment

They bought their 3 bed semis and have to pay Band B, C or D council tax and heat it. Do they see it as an asset they can downsize to a Band A from and pocket the difference, or do they blame the world for the cost of maintaining it?I'll wager that most of them voted the same way after they became owner-occupiers, but the ones who downsized and pocketed the dosh will vote one way now, and the ones who are still in the same house will vote another.

If you'd like me to be really pedantic, I'd say that government is indeed the principal funder of HAs. Most of their income comes from rents and the last estimate I saw was that 70%+ of that rent is paid through Housing Benefit.
you are the last person i thought would believe in a magic government money tree when you say government ,do you really mean tax payers ?wc98 said:
