Bin trucks are autos. Dead or ill men can't keep pressure on an accelerator. One report on sky mentioned it was speeding?

Heart attack at the wheel seems more likely than deliberate act IMHO.
Yup company I worked for had the same thing happen to one of the guys driving a lorry, fortunately he didn't injure anyone but he took out loads of cars and a coppice.

Well based on the latest, looks like a tragic accident.

They don't need to if you are doing say 25 mph and swerve into a crowd

Dear God.

The only comfort is that queen street/George square is a one way system that would have reduced the destruction.

3 days before bloody Christmas. frown

A witness with a calibrated speed gun there?

Hoping the initial reports are wrong - thoughts to all involved.

I wonder if he was one of the 6? Could you imagine (the driver) having to live with this if he survives?

A horrific accident and hopefully none more are declared dead as a result . While this may sound horrible this was the best of the worst, if it had hit practically anywhere else around that area it would have been a much higher toll.

You're right, it is maybe 50 metres from George Square ice rink and big wheel which would've been full at the time.

Apparently it has struck many people and only came to a stop as it hit the building. Horrific.

Latest news is the driver has suffered a heart attack.
To be fair they don't know at this stage whether the driver suffered a heart attack, stroke, fit, diabetic coma, or whatever, or whether this was a deliberate act by someone with a chip on his shoulder.

We just don't know.

How pathetic? Somebody said they thought it was speeding. Grow up.

The lorry ploughed through one of the busiest areas of George Square from my experience. It's where a lot of people are coming out of Queen Street station and walking past that section towards Buchanan Street.

Based on what ?
Erm, speeding through town, ploughing into people and into a main entrance of a building. You could argue it doesn't look deliberate. I just think it does with the little info I've seen. Time will tell..
Have to say I thought that. 6 dead and people thrown 15 metres does not look like he was going slow. A tragedy no matter what.

Edit: Reports now saying driver was slumped at the wheel. My be heart attck. Very sad.

The eyewitnesses have stated they saw the driver slumped over the wheel, although i agree the exact reason for this is unknown. If it was a deliberate act, i would expect George Square which was right next to it to be a more valid target. It managed to miss a busy bar, crowded pavements and a glass fronted restaurant as well. I doubt it was deliberate because of this.

Dreadful business. Typical Sky coverage - trying to get a clearly upset woman to re-live the accident. Another chap has just confirmed that he thinks the vehicle was travelling at 70mph...
