this might be popcorn time.

Apparently a small group of "activists" have persuaded a Dutch court to force the Dutch Government to cut "greenhouse gas" emissions by 25% by 2020.

Should be fun.

From the article linked above ....

"The Dutch government can appeal to a higher court and it is not clear yet how the ruling will be enforced."

You don't say ....

So how do you prove your case? Or did the Dutch government roll over?

Presumably if they appeal and ask for causality to be proved the plaintiffs may suffer from exploding heads.

Dutch court said:
"The parties agree that the severity and magnitude of climate change make it necessary to take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,"
So, no wriggle room for the Dutch government. Oh dear.

I haven't fact checked it, but one comment says that the likely impact of this is that the UK will lose another 1GW of reliable power via the interconnect!

The power supply disaster creeps closer.........

Maybe if they just hold their breath on every third inhale? Job done, 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Daily Mail take on things Mystical and Met.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3136780/Yo...

Clearly with no warming for ~19 years it's a safe bet that nothing can stop the incessant rise in that curious construct known as mean global temperature which is caused by carbon dioxide levels. It's obvious.

Also in the Daily Mail, at least initially, is this excellent Letter to the Editor from yesterday. It's not a link to the original and the capitalisation is off. Even so, it's legible, spot on, and it looks as though the author could be on PH sonar

This interesting snip from the comment section arose from a link posted by steveatesh in one of the EU threads. Clearly the point extends beyond politics.

"Baffling. Maybe. But the WTO option is not an option at all. I've followed the global warming and other debates (government debt etc) too closely to be baffled by it. I think one or two very smart influential people convince the gullible rest."

BBC secret meeting.

Pope's Marxist advisers.

Etc.

Thomas Sowell on 'Global Warming Manufactured by Intellectuals?'

This guy really has some insight and balls, calling it like it is on a lot of issues.

Might be some mileage in setting up a website called The Climate Gullibles, listing for posterity those who are complicit in the global fraud by way of naivety.

When they see their names on such a list, it might make them give more thought to their views. This would work well with self obsessed luvvies and could prove infectious.

Have I hatched a cunning plan?

Rank climageddon 'I can be more pessimistic than you' face-off between Obama and Attenborough. Barry doing his usual 'I'm deeply concerned but I'm not actually going to do much' speech. As usual it's worse than we thought and someone ought to think of the children.

Another piece of complete nonsense from a useless commitee :-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-3331...

Maybe if it was closed, it would make a significant contribution the lowering of the CO2 output of the UK

just in case anyone ever placed any faith in the "homogenisation" processes used on national and global temperature data sets ,this from jo nova shows just how much bullst people like steve mosher talk on blogs.

Thankfully, after 80 years of modern technology, the weather at Eucla and in the Great Victorian Desert is much more bearable than anyone would have expected. The BOM ACORN data set works better than airconditioning. In places near Eucla, where old newspapers record 43C, the BOM tells us the highest maximum that month was “under 27C”. Far to the north of there, the highest maximum stayed under 36C, but the average for that same whole month was above 36C. Go figure. It’s a new kind of maths… [or maybe the miracle of reverse cycle a/c?]

Time for a game of Spot the Contradiction http://joannenova.com.au/2015/06/vanishing-hot-day...

i have read all sorts of plausible st (for st is what it really is) from mosher and people like robert way over the last couple of years regarding how the mathturbation methods used to create these data sets are all better than just reading a thermometer . i could not give one flying fk how clever these people are, math geniuses or not, they are still full of st.

They covered some of this on R4 Today 'flagship' news prog this am - with the necessary input from Harrabin. Calls to continue subsidy to prevent energy bills going up? How does that effing work? Shirley a subsidy is just one set of tax payers shovelling money in to keep another branch of the magic money tree looking healthy?

And no-one on the incisive news prog seems to be able to dig down into this. Laughable.

Awesome! It's not maths it's climatewang.

Believers have already tried to erase the MWP (warmer than now yet we're in unprecedented warmness) and the LIA by getting the universal climate variable constant to do their bidding.

This transparent fiddlefactoring has failed.

By virtue of the obvious nonsense revealed over at Jo Nova's site, this latest effort at rewriting history has also failed.

You don't understand. According to R4 this morning we will obtain most of our energy from renewables like wind, solar, and waves by 2030 so fracking will not be needed - ever. Removing subsidies will mean more energy will need to come from offshore wind (dearer) to "make up the loss of onshore wind". You'd almost think the wind input was vital to our survival, so great is it.

I made a prediction based on previous observations and by extrapolating from them that there would be a rapid upwelling of climate wang on the BBC this week as a result of the very late arrival of summer (now known as a "heat wave", or "extreme weather"). And right on que Lord Debden arrives in the R4 studios to proclaim that it's the end of the world and anyone who disagrees is an oil funded puppy killer.
