Manmade Climate Change -> Volkswagen Effect....
Listening to R4 this morning, it's not too far fetched to see some angle linking 'atmospheric deaths' to vehicle emissions (Naughtie was really trying before 08:00) and thus onto Paris boondoggle to bring in some more regulations. It's all atmos/climate/nox/scare.

My daughter commented during last night's news - 'Why the fuss? Aren't cars much, much cleaner than ever before anyway?'
Perhaps angling more towards 'computer sez' vs 'real world' and how easily 'computer sez' can be manipulated.

Well I'll be shocked if they find widespread tomfoolery with the numbers...it's not as if any manufacturers ever gerry-mandered fuel consumption rates or even maximum speed claims, now is it?

And I took it out on the road and could have sworn that I was driving a VW - but it couldn't have been, because the NOx emissions were wrong.

And in other news - Scots (language) has circa 400 words for an historic substance which will never be seen again.

Hmmmm...

Computer says GIGO

Parallels there may be.
Volkswagons's "Defeat Device" software reminded me of the Climate Research Unit's code which ignored data that didn't skew the results the way they wanted.

There was an article in the Daily Mail today essentially saying that the over-hyped global warming scare was responsible for killing us with diesel cars.

He needed to take it one step further and recognize that the diesel scare is using exactly the same tactics and is vastly over-hyped too.

See, that would never work, you need someone that really understands these things to properly understand these things - you forgot a */ wink

{{{

bool system_emission_test(struct vehicle *car, struct emission_test *test)

As I'm sure you'll all agree - 'return TRUE' is an easy thing to overlook.

(Will someone ever Fvcking fix the forumatting [sic] parser in PH so that code inside

actually renders in that lovely green DIV?)

ETA; quote the post to see what encapsulates the last three dots banghead

I'm a Java man so you've all lost me really.

Did anyone find the missing warming/cooling/pause yet in my 'return TRUE;' code?

It must be in there somewhere.

I think I've figure it out;

{{{
  1. define WARMER, COOLER, PAUSE, HOTEST, MELTING, DEADPBEARS, SEALEVELPLUS = TRUE;
int new_temperature_vs_co2(int currentlevel)
{
return currentlevel++;
}
}}}

I'm getting the hang of this, right?

hehe

The Green Party is meeting in Bournemouth for what it has billed as its "biggest-ever" conference, which will span four days.

The party, which says its membership has quadrupled to 67,000 in a year, expects up to 1,100 members to attend.

Leader Natalie Bennett's speech is at 14:00 BST, and MP Caroline Lucas will address conference on Sunday.

Ahead of the conference, Ms Bennett said she believed British politics was shifting in her party's direction.

She also told the BBC there would be a big focus in her speech on climate change, ahead of the Paris climate conference in December.

Oh dear, more bks from the 'we know all the answers' party

Oh dear, another wheel has fallen of the climate change wagon !!

Energy company Drax has abandoned a £1bn project to introduce carbon capture technology to cut emissions.

Drax is part of a scheme to store carbon dioxide next to its plant in North Yorkshire, which is the biggest coal-fired power station in the UK

It is halting further investment because of the government's decision to reduce subsidies for renewable energy.

Forget what the Biased Bull Corp. has to say.
Drax said:
Selby, Yorkshire: Drax today announced it remained committed to fulfilling its current work on a Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) feasibility and technology development project (FEED), but once completed, would not be investing further and will withdraw as a partner of Capture Power Ltd, the developer of the White Rose CCS project.

The two year project is being taken forward by the Capture Power partnership – made up of Drax, Alstom and BOC and is looking at the potential to capture up to 90% of carbon emissions from a new coal fired power station and safely store them beneath the North Sea. The project is due to conclude during the next 6-12 months.

Drax has also confirmed that while at that point it would cease to commit further investment, it will continue to make the site owned by Drax, along with the infrastructure at the Power Plant, available for the project to be built.

Drax Group Operations Director, and Capture Power Board Director, Pete Emery said:

“We remain fully committed to completing what we’ve signed up to – the completion of a study into the feasibility and development of world leading technology that could result in dramatic reductions in carbon emissions produced by power stations and heavy industry.

“We are confident the technology we have developed has real potential, but have reluctantly taken a decision not to invest any further in the development of this project. The decision is based purely on a drastically different financial and regulatory environment and we must put the interests of the business and our shareholders first.

“We will focus our resources on the areas which we can deliver best value, particularly working with Government to explore the potential for converting a fourth generating unit to run on sustainable biomass.

“Drax still believes this project has great potential and we have announced that the site at the Drax Power Plant, along with our existing infrastructure remain available for the project to be built.”
