Their fraud is exposed when the 'pips start to squeak' and they back off to maintain their revenue - as with fuel duty - if the aim were to save the world, they would rejoice that people were being forced to give up driving, but that's not actually what they want, they just want to tax us more for the privilege.
Indeed. If it were really about saving the whole world, we'd have armies sitting in South America and Indonesia/Burma/Madagascar etc protecting the trees from deforestation.... Not in Iraq/Afghanistan protecting oil..

Who are 'they'?

The gubbermunt, the greenies, the eco-loons, the EU, the bankers, the glitterati?

confused

Pretty much all of the above I guess (and more).

Perhaps 'climate wang' is perceived as being a less painful mechanism to raise funds (after all, who would not want to part with dosh to save the planet?)

And funds - they certainly need to be raised!

It must be, however, a very inefficient revenue gathering exercise, since the 'overheads' are massive.

yikes

Surely this is not simply a grotesque political popularity contest - at the expense of the joe/josephine public?

scratchchin

That would be bonkers!

silly

I have already written on the WWF page that I won't be turning off the lights as the Earth's climate is driven by the sun.....

Don't worry I will turn every light in my house on to help balance the load in the grid

Some people are willing to call it as it is and write about it:

Earth Hour is a colossal waste of time as we need more electricity not less

WWF can go screw themselves with a hammer drill.

I think it should be mandatory to light up the skies at night usinmg wwf and greenpeace members as fuel on a large bonfire....

But then I would say that. biggrin

I thought the subsidies for large scale solar had been binned yet I've seen quite a few solar factories crop up recently? Am I mistaken regarding the subsidy or are these pre-subsidy cut but have taken a while to get through planning?

They're 'limiting' (read that how you will) the subsidies from April this year I think, hence the mad dash to bring as many on line as possible at the moment.

A documentary made by skeptics which according to BishopHill is pretty good.
I have not had time to watch it myself yet but may be a good watch.

Interesting report on Malaria etc. (inc. in the UK) historically, and it's dependence (or lack of) on warmth.
