A large part of Australia was historically cold last month, -2 to -4C below 'normal', some areas were the coldest on record.

I thought it would be a good opportunity to show how the GISS temperature anomaly maps are warm biased, and as expected, the 'extreme' cold has been all but disappeared, clearly diminished in area and warmed.

So both the hottest and coldest September temperatures on the same continent at the same time.

Yes, but has the average changed? We must talk about averages, 'cos politicians don't understand anything else. But are to stupid to know that an average, in country terms re temperatures, is meaningless.

Even the 'most warmest' satellite data RSS shows 85% of Australia average or below, which more accurately reflects the BoM chart above!

GISTEMP LOTI ANOMALY is a very poor reflection of reality.

it seems scientists have accidentaly found the way to convert CO2 into fuel(ethanol), what gives?

That's as likely as running an engine on water - they're both products of combustion.

Isn't that called Fraud?

So there will no doubt be arrests made and prosecutions to follow..... Or do we only hunt down poor people claiming 50p per week too much on their benefits?

Nick Stern and Bob Ward, what a pity these chaps are embroiled in a suspected major £multi-million fraud where Bob admits 'mistakes were made' - no doubt innocently, and not in any way intended as deception for financial gain...even though "the publication dates of some of these papers on the list are incorrect – giving the mistaken impression that they had been completed after the CCCEP came into existence."

It would be fantastic to see Ward and Stern serve time at her Majesty's pleasure.

It would be a bit of a Max Clifford moment... or even a Chris Huhne moment.

UN: Farming needs to harvest chance to cut emissions

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-3767...

The global farming sector has a big role to play in the effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to future climate change, the UN says.
A report by the Food and Agriculture Organization said agriculture accounted for about a fifth of emissions, which it said needed to be reduced.
The State of Food & Agriculture 2016 report said "business as usual" would leave millions at risk from hunger.
Laat year, nations adopted a UN goal of ending hunger by 2030.
"The climate is changing, so agriculture must change too," explained Rob Voss, director of FAO's Agricultural Development Economics division.
We are saying that because agriculture is already very affected by the impacts of climate change, particularly the countries in the tropical zones."

Oh yea? Where and how?

Mr Voss, who headed the team that produced the FAO State of Food & Agriculture 2016 report, added.
"If we continue along the present pathways then we will not be able to [deliver] food security around the world and we will not be able to stabilise the climate."

Oh brilliant. fk about with agricultures CO2 output, and the climate will stabilise !!!!! After 4.5 billion years of wandering around all over the place!!! Sure it will. Where do these idiots come from ?

CO2 levels mark 'new era' in the world's changing climate

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-3772...

Levels of CO2 in the atmosphere have surged past an important threshold and may not dip below it for "many generations".
The 400 parts per million benchmark was broken globally for the first time in recorded history in 2015.
But according to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), 2016 will likely be the first full year to exceed the mark.
The high levels can be partly attributed to a strong El Niño event.
While human emissions of CO2 remained fairly static between 2014 and 2015, the onset of a strong El Niño weather phenomenon caused a spike in levels of the gas in the atmosphere.

Non story then. I spotted a 'may' as the 14th word. Then we have a'liklely'. A 'partly' (how do they know that?). And then the last sentence, that says it's all natural!!!!

I like this. Another CO2 generating party !!

Around 200 nations who signed the Paris climate agreement will meet in Morocco in November to decide on the next steps forward.

If only the BBC knew that a carbon dioxide level change is not climate change. Then again, when mankind can't be shown to be changing global climate - which is changing naturally at a pedestrian rate in historical terms - the only option is to fixate on something that is changing.

The price of Kit Kat will be next, MBH already got in quickly with an explanation for the price hike...global warming of course smile

Amazing how many times the same 400ppm mark 'tipping point' is used for a grossly distorted scare story isn't it!

1st time past in n-hemi, then south, then permanently above in each hemisphere, and now permanently above for entire globe!

I noticed BBC now calls CO2 pollution and states 280ppm is natural level.

Mendacious nutjobs.

And wind co's in Australia are being sued for the outage and the latest official report more or less blames windmills outright without actually blaming anyone.

Dear God!

I am listening to the news on R4.

The Bolshevik Bedwetters Corporation is on maximum alert.

Apparently we are at a "tipping point".

I didn't realise that it was only 50 days since Gordon Brown was in a bit of a panic.

Look on the bright side, the news is better than R4 whingeing women whingeing about their lot in society. If we don't put a stop to this nonsense, they'll be wanting to wear jock straps next...wobble

Quite, if you want to see the state of UK education take a look at today's politics show on BBC 2, they had a professor dropping dry ice into water with a litmus marker in it, amazingly it turned red, turning the water acidic, no mention of turning the sea less alkaline, nope shell fish were going to dissolve, if this is the standard of our professors we are doomed.

The beeb's own people seem genuinely ignorant on this, displaying the same level of ignorance as that reported for the prof.

For one thing, this global warming malarkey should be increasing SST and carbon dioxide solubility decreases with increasing temperature. Cold water absorbs CO2 whereas warm water releases CO2. If only the prof knew, and could figure out the implications. Likewise the BBC.

In terms of corals and to put it in simple terms that any prof can understand, coral growth makes the surrounding water less alkaline as the corals suck alkaline carbonate ions out of the water to build their skeletons.

This means that growing corals turn the water around them less alkaline / more acidic without suffering damage - as published in the peer-reviewed literature by Andersson et al using actual observations 2007 to 2012, as featured several times in this thread. It's a sign of healthy, growing coral.

A similar effect pertains to shell organisms, which are seen to build thicker shells as ocean chemistry changes to less alkaline conditions. This is Cohen et al iirc, also as posted several times in PH climate threads.

With H/T to Diderot, emails probably not intended to see the light of day once again give the game away.

Snips from a post by Diderot on NOAA FoIA results said:
Here’s what NOAA scientists had to say, privately, in an exchange about the draft content of an article for the New York Times' editor:

"It’s very interesting, but in order to work for us it needs to be geared more toward the general reader. Can the authors give us more specific, descriptive images about how acidification has already affected the oceans? Is the situation akin to the acid rain phenomenon that hit North America? What can be done to counteract the problem?"

Dr Busch, who works for NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program and Northwest Fisheries Science Center at Seattle, responded:

"Unfortunately, I can’t provide this information to you because it doesn’t exist. As I said in my last email, currently there are NO areas of the world that are severely degraded because of Ocean Acidification or even areas that we know are definitely affected by OA right now. If you want to use this type of language, you could write about the CO2 vent sites in Italy or Polynesia as examples of things to come. Sorry that I can’t be more helpful on this!"

No areas affected. Well, some positively affected, with coral growth and organisms with thicker shells, but apart from that...
