I’m sure lots of governments use twitter to spy on people however not many have a history of chopping up those who dare criticise the government. If you were a Saudi dissident who uses social media to criticise your government this news would be worrying.

“Two former employees of Twitter have been charged in the US with spying for Saudi Arabia.
The charges, unsealed on Wednesday in San Francisco, allege that Saudi agents sought personal information about Twitter users including known critics of the Saudi government.”

Uber’s CEO was recently questioned about doing business with Saudi Arabia and his response was quite something.

Oh come on, who amongst us hasn't murdered and dismembered a journalist, or executed someone for witchcraft?

Remember, Imams following the Quran say that "beating" is not allowed but slaps are perfectly fine and should be used as a teaching aid to train your wife.

said:
Ikramah reported that: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Strike them if they disobey you concerning good conduct, a striking without severity. It should be a striking with a folded handkerchief or his palm, and he should not strike her with whips or clubs.” (Tafsir Ar-Razi 4:34)

Rather than being a physical punishment, this striking is a teaching mechanism intended to direct the wife’s attention to the severity of her behaviour.
Now while "modern" interpretations of this section of the text differ and different Imams will give their flock different versions, the text is the text, that's what's written and that's why some people say it still allows slapping to be perfectly fine. There was even a video of a Imam from Qatar showing how he tells followers how much slapping is allowed.

Philip Hammond says yes as he takes up a job with the Saudi government. A man who said he couldn’t be part of a Tory party which was ‘intolerant’ and full of ‘radicals’ is happy enough to work for the super tolerant and not radical at all House of Saud.

How are they doing in SA? . The oil price is through the floor forever. Are all those investors they have conferences for going to invest in them now?
At least Richard Branston pulled the plug before he realised he was broke as well.
As all the freely splashed about money out of the middle east dries up the unforseen effect will make a lot of sex workers suffer.
Wonder what Phillip Hammond who seems like a decent bloke can offer them?

He always came across as a bit of a prick, but I felt that was just my opinion, based on nothing other than a bit of bias. Sometimes bias is right. In this case I was not. He's not a bit of a prick, he's obviously a lot of a prick. Good riddance from UK politics, hopefully.

Wonder if Boris follows suit?

“ The US has announced an end to its support for Saudi-led offensive operations in Yemen, citing the role the bombing campaign has had in creating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The announcement was made byJoe Biden during a visit to the state department, capping a whiplash fortnight of dramatic foreign policy changes since his 20 January inauguration.

“This war has to end,” Biden said. “And to underscore our commitment, we’re ending all American support for offensive operations in the war in Yemen, including relevant arms sales.””

"Ending support for offensive operations" will make virtually no difference to the Saudi Military as it's only a small amount of airborne tanking and some Int platforms involved. In the past Congress has already pulled US support for operations in Yemen two (or three) times before restarting after making their point as the support also aids in anti-AQY activity.

However, ending sales will have a much greater effect.

I thought the War in Yemen was against the Houthis rather than AQ?

The repercussions of this could be interesting

Biden has stated he wants to reopen the Iran nuclear deal pissing off the Israeli’s the Saudi’s and other Middle East nations

He has stopped the export of armaments to other ME nations including 50 fighters to the UAE

Now he is withdrawing support for Saudi in its battle against Iranian backed Houthi rebels

It’s like the US has switched sides and has already led to Israel threatening military action against Iran if Biden persists

However you look at it, his actions are destabilising the Middle East
