Ref. Religion: Oh do shut up.

You believe in something, fine. You don't believe in something, fine. What you believe or don't believe in differs from me, fine.

Now, lets all go to the pub, first round on me wink

Can any of the god squad on here tell my why you lot seem to be so obsessed with gayness?
Maybe it had some sort of practical basis (like poisonous shellfish and pork) at one point? It seems to be a fairly common "commandment"

That was brilliant, nearly laughed up a lung! The perfect way to cap off a thread that's amused me all week. Dawkins irritates me a little normally but this is priceless.

Thanks Derek et al, I'll hold out hope that one day a poster will come along that has the IQ to match their dedication to sky fairy nonsense - once scientific theory / theory wooooshed overhead, there was no hope for this one.

Loving the tarring comment. Such irony.

Was disappointed you did not turn out to be an athiest as I had a tenner on it.

Well the rainbow ocelot has ~7 billion non-followers - which more than trumps Christianity.

If (by your apparent argument) more = better - then the rainbow ocelot wins by quite a considerable margin.

For its supernatural aspects that is undoubtedly true. But there's more to religions than that - or at least, there is for the brighter people. Unfortunately those brighter people seem to be in the minority.
It's undoubtedly true that religious texts do contain moral guidance and rules - however it's likely that these rules were simply borrowed from rules that humans developed over thousands of years during our hunter gatherer phase.

Killing or stealing from others within your social group is likely to have gone down quite badly and would not be conducive to social cohesion. All the writers of religious texts did was write them down, attribute them to a deity and suggest divine punishment should the rules not be followed.

That wasn't my argument. I already stated that.

So why ask if my idea has the support of billions of people - if it's irrelevant to the argument?

LOL! You only have to ask yourself if you think the snot ocelot will gain the support of billions and will.outlast civilisations and the persecution of snot ocelotists. Will people be watching Songs of Praise of The Snot Ocelot in two thousand years time and watching films such as The Passion of Snot Ocelot?
And the snot ocelot cannot just be, the snot ocelot has to actually do something memorable and inspiring, otherwise he will never foster the power that Jesus did and still does.

Can I just point out that in the original scriptures, there is no mention of Mary being a virgin, or of a resurrection for that matter. The book of Mark ended with the crucifixion.
At that time there were many virgin births, simply because in those days a young girl would be stoned to death for her "crime", whereas to day they get a council house!
Wasn't Mary herself touted as a virgin birth?

Mary was ignored for the majority of the first 700 years of the religion but then the Mediterranean countries started to pray to her and it was likely to turn into a cult to the church did what it always did and took it over. A few years later Mary became a virgin because sex made women dirty and you can't worship someone who was mucky.

The Iron Age residents of England had laws in the pre invasion days and there is evidence that these included offences against the person and property. It might well be, as some believe, that the Romans reduced the protection of law for the locals, especially as far as inheritance is concerned.

Do you think that the snot ocelot is capable of such things? Serious question, I was just trying to put it across with a bit of humour to lighten the mood and loosen you up! So yes or no?

I already established that the aim of the rainbow ocelot is to have people not believe. The fact that 7 billion people don't surely proves its power....no?

Are you the snot ocelot God? Have you asked seven billion people if they like the idea or have you decided for them? They might actually like it and that will deplete the power of the snot ocelot, peace be upon it.

Funny - I don't remember being asked if I like the idea of religion when I was younger - it was just kinda foisted upon me, like it or lump it.

So how did it damage you, what negative marks has it left on you?
