Roll it up nice and tight, hand it back to her and tell her to stick it up her arse.

Just read that on the BBC site. Unbelievable!

Personally I would write back with instructions on where and how to insert said invoice. Stuck up bh.

That's a bit weird!

Why do people misjudge this sort of thing so badly? I agree it's pretty poor form to not show up to something without notice but whereas I would have felt guilty and offered to pay, receiving that would make me determined to never pay!

More importantly, since when are guests expected to pay to attend a party FFS! I've noticed a couple of posts on Facebook recently regarding "Sharon's birthday bash" and how the deposit is due. WTF?

The dippy bh would have had to have paid for the boy anyway, what difference does it make if he went or not.
I can see her child being really popular at school.

Not condoning the sheer lunacy of the invoice, but it's rather rude to just not turn up.

Doesn't take much effort, to send a text does it?

People.

I wonder if the mother has followed the practice directions on pre-claim actions, especially the bit about giving the five year old advice on consumer debt. That should go down well in the hearing.

People are rude and inconsiderate, it is the same with my line of work, people just don't turn up for appointments with no prior warning or phone call, it is incredibly rude but that is how the majority seem to be now.

Yep, maybe the invoice was because there was no prior warning that this child was going to be a no show, unfortunately; no matter how rude it is to just not show, this "invoice" just makes the person issuing it, look a bit of a prick.

And it doesnt take much effort to read the news article. They had no contact details!

If the parents did not accept the invite, then they can not be made to pay and the woman is wasting her time.

If they confirmed that their son would attend and the woman went ahead and paid for their son based on this but he then doesnt turn up on the day, they will have to pay up.

coffee
Yet they had a party invite:

In a short statement, Ms Lawrence said: "All details were on the party invite. They had every detail needed to contact me."

Whatever. People.

That is a bullst excuse, one that I hear all the time when I have no shows to appointments that I have made for people to come in to work to see me, I finally manage to get hold of them, "oh I'm really sorry, I didn't have your number", in my case there is the internet, directory enquiries, my card, my number on their mobile from when we last spoke.

In the case of the no show to the party, there are mutual friends, phone number or e-mail address on the invite, Face Book etc.

This.

One of the things I hate more than anything else are rude and ignorant people who accept invites without caveat and then don't turn up.

I have a bit of a silly life with some things booked months in advance and then most other things I can't give you a straight answer to until a week before at the longest. Funny but this works as people know where they stand and I know if I need to make a call depending on if anyone needs to book things and so on. It's not that hard!

Another poster was taking about deposits. Well I don't know about you guys but these days if you are going to plan anything costly then you need to make sure that people 'buy in' to it or else find yourself out of pocket when one or two don't turn up and you are having to stand the wasted costs of the tickets you have bought or room you have reserved etc. I'm off on one such do next week that is a Thursday to Sunday bash. Everyone has put in £200 to the pot to pay for the tickets and rooms. If anyone ducks out now it will be a shame but at least we will not be cussing them as we now have to split the wasted costs or chase them for it.
