Members of my family have died of cancer, as have those of many in here. So no.

Quoted for posterity WRG Brittan, we'll see how the truth plays out here.

Interesting lack of tributes in the media.

Usually there are several "he was a great man" statements from various politicos at times such as this. Looks like only Hague has put his head above the parapet so far.

Wonder why there aren't more of them.

Perhaps they'll do the same for 'Latvian Leon'.
You're getting your anti semitic slurs the wrong way round. Brittan was of Lithuanian descent, it's Lawson who is Latvian. rolleyes

Speaking on Sky News, Lord Heseltine recalled the Westland affair that led to his resignation and that of Brittan from the cabinet in 1986.

“It was all a technical thing about whether he’d seen a letter; there was no disgrace to him or anything like that,” he said. “It was just very, very bad luck he got caught up in something he just didn’t have the stomach for.”

The peer added: “I remember him as a very talented and highly respected minister. But in later life, our friendship remained. His wife came to stay with us, he invited us to Covent Garden, so I saw him in many different roles, minister, friend and it’s very sad to hear this news. I think you should remember him as a man of integrity, a man of great ability, a man of determination, because he didn’t have an easy time getting his seat.”

There are a number of contributors somewhat jumping the gun with accusations, claims and insinuations. I think some of whom either misunderstand some of the recent criticisms of the man or have insider knowledge they're very sure about.

Or I've missed some pretty significant developments.

Indeed.

I think a few posters need to look in the mirror and consider if they like what they see.

I think a few on here are taking the article and comments on the link the OP as cast iron concrete truths.

Personally, I find it distasteful to post up stuff like that when someone has just passed away.

Has he ever been found to have done anything wrong then?

Or is all this gloating a mix of him being from the Thatcher era and what are, for now, a ton of rumours AIUI?

I know travesty aye hehe
I'm not sure if that fits with the HoL passing Chris Grayling's Judicial Review reforms yesterday? Supposedly Judicial Reviews were open to misuse so he's had to restrict access to them. They moved the bar too, something to do with cases having to meet exceptional public interest. How long is a piece of string?

Non Lawyer Grayling fiddling about with Judicial Reviews is another travesty?

And it's the same day HRH Prince Andrew is at Davos saying 'It wasn't me Guv'?

I think you have a good point but there are questions about him that need to be answered. Yes, he only 'mislaid' a dossier apparently but then again some senior figures questioned the sense of putting one of his friends into the role of investigating the whole affair. Why? To protect him against accusations of losing a dossier?

As I said, there are questions to be answered, but no longer by him. Time will tell, or not. Perhaps a few more need to die before the matter gets examined properly.

It's coincidental that Theresa May's two appointees to chair the overarching Inquiry into how the public sector dealt with paedophilia has delayed things, with there now being rumours that it could pulled altogether. And the second appointee had letters written by the Home Office explaining how many times Dame Fiona Woolf had met the Brittans?

Theresa May couldn't have filled out a card to be displayed in her local Job Centre Plus?

The establishment seem to get a much easier time than someone caught on Police Camera Action Road Wars TV programmes shifting their weight from one foot to the other while stood on a grass verge beside their car as it's caused an ANPR ping for non-insurance.

That i wouldn't make a comment such as the one above about looking like idiots about something like having cancer.

My condolences about your father.

Cancer killed my father. Not before he served abroad taking the Queen's shilling helping to put down an insurgency.

Great British 'values'? I thought we were supposed to be better than countries we force feed democracy and our values to?
