Lewis Carroll - repressed paedo?
Discussion
So the age of consent was 12 back then. Dodgson was generally seen in modern times as a repressed paedo who wouldn't have ever acted on whatever was going through his head... And now they've "discovered" a picture of a naked young girl which MIGHT have been taken by him and based the whole "explosive" documentary around it.
No wonder I rarely watch tv anymore.

Isn't it the repressed bit that is important here?
Is anyone who's ever thought "I'll kill him" a repressed murderer. Are we now into thought crime?
It's an interesting thought. Is anyone who's ever thought "I'll kill him" a repressed murderer. Are we now into thought crime?
Now I'm not defending paedophiles in any way here, if there's anyone with a mind to misinterpret looking for a scrap, but.....
I believe paedophiles cannot help their sexual orientation, as homosexuals cannot. It is some kind of genetic or chemical thing.
What they (paedophiles) can do is attempt to ensure they don't do anything about it, when they do something they cross the line. Easier said than done I guess.
So yes, is a repressed paedophile the same thing as an active paedophile?

You are correct Timmy, Winnie the Pooh is NOT suitable for children.
WOAH! "Reading about Poo Bear is bound to disturb the young mind. I believe that there is sexual practice called 'scat' that is very common among most atheists. It involves play with human feces. We all know that fags eat poop but this has now become popular with most non belivers."
Scary that such nutcases exist...
Actually, at least 1 or 2 of the people there are taking the p p...

I'm outraged, they should ban any further remakes or tellings of that sickening "Alice in Wonderland" story.
Burn the books, and put an end to the glorification of drugs being force fed into children's poor minds.
Psychedelic Hashish Cake, magic mushrooms, marijuana pipe smoking, the list goes on.
This "Alice in Wonderland" story enables him to fiddle with kids from his grave, even in 117 years after he died.
The pervert.

To be honest I'm not sure what good, or ill, will come of this.
Whilst I am very happy to be in the camp of those who have no interest in women (or man) who are not fully developed I do have a great deal of difficulty in imposing our social mores, rules and laws in retrospect.
The linked article states that the photo is of a teenager, yet also that the age of consent back then was 12. We are talking about a period in time when it was perfectly possible to collect a prostitute who was well under 18 openly. Sickening to me and by the standards we live by today, but if not normal then, accepted.
Was he a wrongun? Who knows, I strongly suspect that by our standards in 2015 he was. To judge him by those standards though is as wrong, especially as we don't even know if he definitely did do anything that is not in keeping with today's laws, let alone those of 150 years ago.
But he is a male, he had an unusual relationship with a young girl, and so his works must be stricken from the record and his name placed with those of Paul Gadd, Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville...

Age of consent in the Vatican City was 12 until last year.Spain has only just raised the age of consent from 13 to 16.
In 1880, the age of consent in the US state of Delaware was 7.
It's all a bit mind boggling. But it goes to show that its wholly wrong to start judging Lewis Carroll against the standards of today. Whatever the hell they might be.
In fact, I imagine he would be astonished by the graphic sexualisation of young women which is common on TV, in music videos and in run of the mill porn.
Seems paradoxical that the same media that sexualises men and women gets so puritanical and hypocritical when a famous person is caught doing something naughty.
If you are caught In possession of a rude picture of a 17 year old girl, then you wind up on the register. Take a trip to Japan, and it's perfectly lawful to have it off with a 13 year old.
It is all terribly confusing. Makes me rather glad that I was brought up in the 1970s and 80s, where sexual depravity was the lingerie section of the Littlewoods catalogue, or if you were very lucky, a dog eared copy of Fiesta found in a damp hedge.
