Yeah, but I was only joking - so that's alright then isn't it? And I said it on some obscure corner of the internet in front of some equally obscure and sad individuals (I count my self in that - don't take offense) and not on national TV.

And The Toffs were never subjected to 200 years of apartheid and slavery and being treated as sub human, put in Zoos and the like. And I never made several £million acting in a film about said enslavement of toffs, and I wasn't claiming to be working for more toff inclusion in my workplace.

So in many ways it was more offensive but in many ways it was also an irrelevant aside for my own amusement and nothing really to do with the main point under discussion, you were totally at liberty to ignore it.
You aren't joking

You are a lefty burning piece of jealousy

Why do you hate toffs so much?

How much do you hate them?

Would you like them all to be rounded up and killed?
Fred's comment was obviously a joke but seems to have hit a nerve with a few on here.

Anyone know the history of the word? I thought it started being used because some found "black" offensive. Hard to keep up with the serially offended PC crowd.
Is there a list somewhere where I can check for updates?

Is my son mixed race, half Asian or half-caste? Is there a journalist or IC1 activist who may be grossly offend on my sons behalf?

Can the n word still be sang and said on songs and films without complaint too?
Apparently you cannot say 'mixed race' anymore:

According to the British Sociological Association, there are other words and phrases used to describe race, skin colour and heritage which could be found offensive however.

"Halfe-caste" is a "dated, racist term which should be avoided", they explain.

"Mixed race is a misleading term since it implies that a 'pure race' exists."

They advise alternatives including "mixed parentage" and "dual heritage".

So with a Welsh grandfather and a Scottish grandmother does that make me 'mixed race'? 'Mixed heritage'? Mongrel? Oh, I forgot the Angles and the Celts and the Germanic stock from way back. I'll call anybody I want whatever I want and don't give a damn if anyone takes offence - I won't bend to some arbitrary fashionista swerve of manufactured idiocy trying to change my inoffensive-by-nature mind set. And I won't apologise if others are determined to take offence at my apparent lack of grammar or sensibilities.

Mixed Race - Not OK
Mixed Parentage - OK

So what is the mixed parentage relating to ?
Mixed as in one male one female ?
Or mixed as in two different races, which would be mixed race surely ? confused

You're applying logic coupled with common sense. You need to stop that.

Dangerous tactic when dealing with the PC Brigade.

So 'race' is now longer an acceptable term in a particular context or in a specific context?

So I can't play the race card anymore etc etc

Who makes these rules and how come the only time you hear of them is when you trip over them and be made to feel like a bigot?
Race is a particularly outdated concept, in a 21st century global village it's also entirely meaningless for any reason other than as a means to segregate. I think it's a fairly noble aim to remove the concept of race from discourse, don't you?

I'm genuinely fascinated to know how you go about classifying people as 'Toffs'?

What do you base it on? Is it some form of points based system?

For example, I was privately educated, but don't think of myself as a 'Toff'.

I'm sure people will find a way.
And people like you will find a way to label them, while being pitifully unaware of the irony.

Ok, I'll be the judge of whether you're a Toff or not...

Do you own property or were you born in Chelsea, South Kensington or Knightsbridge?

Do you decant your wine?

Do you have an unusually overly ponced name, like Benedict, Wanda or Sheridan?

Do you have a summer house with Black Labradors, horses and a private boating lake, with a staff of 7 that you visit 3 weeks of the year?

Do you ski in Switzerland?

Do you have paintings of dead relatives up in your house?

Have you ever eaten swan?

Do you shoot? Hunt Foxes? Wear fancy welly boots and wax jackets into town on a saturday and own more than one umbrella?

If the answer to all of the above is yes then I'm afraid you're a Toff, 3 or more yes puts you on (what I call) the Toff spectrum and you'll need to return for a second opinion - please bring with you a set of dental imprints, a photograph of your sister and any silver cutlery you have lying around the house.

Yes, own property but I was born (and still live) in the North of England.

Do you decant your wine?

No, but sometimes Red is better after it has been allowed to breath for a period of time.

Do you have an unusually overly ponced name, like Benedict, Wanda or Sheridan?

I'm Timothy, but no one had ever called me anything but Tim.

Do you have a summer house with Black Labradors, horses and a private boating lake, with a staff of 7 that you visit 3 weeks of the year?

Nope.

Do you ski in Switzerland?

Nope. I have skied in Switzerland, but we go to Courchevel most years now.

Do you have paintings of dead relatives up in your house?

Nope.

Have you ever eaten swan?

I don't think so. I definitely had Goose this Christmas.

Do you shoot? Hunt Foxes? Wear fancy welly boots and wax jackets into town on a saturday and own more than one umbrella?

Yes I do shoot. But I live in Cumbria so it isn't particularly uncommon. I go clay shooting with friends and suchlike. I own wellies because fields are often muddy. Yes, I own a green shooting type jacket but I don't wear that sort of thing in town.
I don't hunt foxes myself, but have turned out on occasions such as the Boxing Day Hunt with a hundred or so other people for a drink and to see them off.

I'm not saying Benedict did anything other than a brain fart under pressure and of course it's hard to keep up with what people find offensive but when you're in a position of power as he is, and privilege as he is then you deserve to be held to account.
Well at least you called him by his actual name in that post, not the childish Cumber(add your own insult here) that you have in other posts.

Reading your posts remind me why I gave up my socialist leanings, I was around 23 at the time, I realised that socialism was all about envy, it wasn't that I wanted equality for all, that would be stupid, we are not all equal, it was about jealousy, I didn't have so why should others have.

I wanted some, so I worked and learned and worked some more, I am no longer envious. You should try it.
Indeed

Isn't it strange that so many lefties including many politicians, seem to think it's OK to label 'toffs/posh boys' in every possible way and indeed advocate discrimination against them yet they campaign so hard against discrimination in any other form

If wealthy and/or privileged/posh people talk in a condescending or discriminatory manner about the working classes/poor(er) people, they quite rightly get pounced on so why is it deemed acceptable the other way round ?

Francis Bacon - Oh he's dead isn't he? Rolf Harris perhaps, he has time on his hands now.

I just thought up a new vital question - Do you have a job you could explain to a bar man in the time it takes for a pint of mild to settle?
