I expect most of the closures are where there is a duplicate store, perhaps larger or more modern nearby. Just looked at the Chatham branch on Streetview and it looks old outdated and constrained, probably a prime site for a valuable mixed use redevelopment
The Chatham store, along with the high street in general, is dated and i'm surprised it,s lasted this long. I have lived within 5 miles of the store for my entire life and have been there once. The fact that even before the council implemented the one way system, Chatham was tricky to get into by car, now it's st! Asda are building a new store not much more than a mile away at a location much easier to reach by car.

It's a shame. But it's long overdue. As for Chatham, it's a hole. The court is next door to the jobcentre, need I say more.

Reckon Tesco will be a winner in Clapham, opens tomorrow.
I had a look earlier - first issue was delivery lorry blocking the entrance to their carpark...so I parked in the parade of shops. Delivery lorry was then told to park outside the store to clear the carpark entrance.

Good points - a few of the superstore offers are the same price in the Express store. eg Hovis best of both is 78p and the 4 pints of fresh milk is £1.
