With loads of peoples elderly relatives being forced to pay for their own care its a very valid question. Why the fk would a tax payer want to give this old bloke £20 if he's not even going to get to spend it?
Jesus F****** Christ.
I've heard it all now.

I guess the muggers were doing him a favour really, at least they'll get to spend his money.

I realise its a bit miserly to post a question about it but its a fair question, no?

Surely he's going to be over the limit of savings, have to pay his own care and not see a single penny of further donations at this point?

So in other words, its utterly pointless throwing another fiver in the pot. Other than letting you post on Facebook saying you donated...

When you think of some of the toss-pots who get mentioned in the honours system, the young lady who started it should get at least an MBE.

someone feels the need to mug a disabled pensioner?
It's awful. Wouldn't even most of the criminal fraternity think this horrendous?

By all accounts, this little old man is quite independent and socially mobile, hence he was collecting his wheelie bin. I've seen him out and about around Gateshead a couple of times. Very well spoken and articulate too.

Let's hope the money raised can pay for a nice secure bungalow for him somewhere, far away from scumbags like the one who attacked him.

Let's put that question to bed now. Now be a good fella and throw another £5 in the pot - and don't forget to share on Facebook smile

2 hours ago For those concerned about Alan losing benefits, there has been a great offer from a solicitor in Gosforth who has offered her services for free to set up a trust fund for Alan which would mean he would still be eligible for benefits. Sadly the rules on income and benefits apply whatever Government is in power, though this Government has not been disability friendly and has demonised us. This isn't the place to make that point, however."

I don't think so, as it's a gift, lots of little gifts, not income or an inheritance.

No idea. She's just "bumping it to the top" as there is no sticky.
Pointing out the fact that in a previous comment - a firm of solicitors have agreed to set up for free a trust fund for Alan - so that he will not have to lose his benefits.

However - every couple of pages - people post up their concern that "Alan will lose his benefits".

A very nice thing to have done, but there are many, many people suffering from similar things and are living in fear. Perhaps as well as donating this chap a fiver, people should also spend a few minutes to write to their MPs to find out why police numbers are being cut, why streetlights are being turned off and why we have woefully short sentences for serial offenders, if they are 'unlucky' enough to be caught, considering the pitifully low conviction rate.

Someone has set up a page to donate a few quid to the organiser so she could have a holiday or something. She's said she really appreciates the gesture but cannot accept it as there are others in much greater need than her. She's donating the money to Marie Curie.

And the lower IQ members of the community were remarkably quick to stick the knife into her - about "getting a free holiday".

If the world were full of people more like the organiser - the world would be a much nicer place.
