Alan, who has put his Gateshead house up for sale, has suggested that the bill could be paid by fundraisers.

He said: “I would suggest that someone sets up a small fund to raise money to pay for Katie’s PR.

“It’s not a big amount and I think a lot of people would actually like to do that for Katie. I’m quite happy to put just a small donation in because I don’t want to show off.”

When asked how much he was willing to donate, Alan said: “A small amount to me is £10 or something.”

He added: “It’s easy for people to say ‘he’s got a lot of money, cough up’ but you got to look into all the alternatives.

“It might seem hard but if I start handing it out, other people might ask for money. It was given to me on the understanding that I use it for myself.

“A lot of people just want it to stay with me.”

Oh dear. No-one coming out of this smelling good unfortunately.
Indeed. But playing devil's advocate here for a moment, would it be fair to say that given his disabilities and very sheltered life since birth, he's not too worldly and perhaps thinks that only donating a token amount is the right thing to do in order to deter freeloaders from begging for hand-outs (as he states himself in the video) ?

Of course, there's nothing to stop him contacting the PR bird directly and paying it off discreetly but it's entirely possible that this hasn't even occured to him. I accept it's probably unlikely in the grand scheme of things but there could be more to this than we're being told scratchchin. That fact he suggests "someone" could set up another fund to pay off the PR bill does tend to leave a sour taste in my mouth, though. Naive and innocent old boy thinking he's doing the right thing, or just a tt? scratchchin

How very Christian of Alan.

I am sure that, if he is right about his beliefs, he will be able to square this attitude away with St Peter...

I'm surprised he didn't use the word "entitled".

The only caveat I would have here is that Alan, how best to put it, might have some disablement which means he's not totally aware of how he should act from a mental perspective. I don't mean that in a bad way. He might not understand.

But he clearly understands the value of money, that is his reasoning!

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt up until I read what he is quoted as saying. He fully understands his actions.

That's a strange attitude.

And now he doesn't even want the house - he wants to move to Shetland and find a job in the church in order to "fulfill his calling from god".
