Employing the services of a PR firm was never going to be free, and you cant just ignore bills.
You have to wonder how this came about - was she approached by the PR firm (bit grasping of them if she was) and what did she agree to / sign?I guess there are no formal rules with this sort of fund raising but sounds like she gave absolutely everything to the victim and didn't keep anything at all for her own expenses, which is laudable.
He's back defending himself again.
She helped to raise over £330k for him and his house only cost £110k ish. So he's still sitting on the rest (or at least some of the rest).
"He added: “It’s easy for people to say ‘he’s got a lot of money, cough up’ but you got to look into all the alternatives.
“It might seem hard but if I start handing it out, other people might ask for money. It was given to me on the understanding that I use it for myself.
“A lot of people just want it to stay with me.”

According to an old article. He only took £150k. Katie launched a charity with the remaining cash. It seems like this is what has the 8k PR bill.
He could still pay off, or at least contribute towards the debt. Ironic that he's taken the attitude that if he helps one everyone will want something, whereas if all those who had donated thought that he wouldn't have received a penny.ofcorsa said:

In that case I don't understand why the charity isn't being pursued for the payment - or indeed why it doesn't pay it, if it's valid.I note she's saying she never signed anything and makes it sound like the PR company just imposed themselves on her.
Some people are very naïve - an ex-colleague who was setting up a business got a call from a recruitment consultant he knew from his last job and mentioned that he needed someone. Ended up with a bill at the full rate with him wailing "I thought we were mates".

Whilst she had good intentions, is she not just another naïve do-gooder ?

That said even I would be able to give more than a tenner towards the bill that she incurred in helping me.....
It always pays to remember the old saying . No good deed goes unpunished!!!!Employing the services of a PR firm was never going to be free, and you cant just ignore bills.

Things aren't going too well for Claire Barber PR on social media - not the brightest move going public with all of this.
Clare Barber PR doesn't come out well in this article - http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mum-dubbed-an..."PR Claire Barber, of Alnwick, Northumberland, then offered to help raise funds for Katie’s charitable foundation for £550-a-day"
"Ms Barber believed Katie would pay from her own pocket" - Katie being a part-time beautician
"Ms Barber has already received a fee of £1500 for her work"
“Claire (Barber) said she was going to ‘monetise’ the charity at the same time as taking her daily fee”
“Claire (Barber) offered to settle for £5k if Katie signed a gagging order and agreed not to speak about this"
Leaving aside the angle the newspaper has put on it, I find it doubtful that a part time beautician normally has many dealings with a £700 a day PR agent. Therefore it is unlikely they would be as rigorous in setting the terms of the contract as someone used to dealing with a PR company.
Just the sort of circumstance where someone unscrupulous might see hundreds of thousands rolling in, and wonder how they could take a percentage.
In the society we live in - our protagonist might well find himself being on the wrong end of a seriously major kicking.
A bit of mindfulness is called for.
And if you don't have nouse....you hire someone to assist...
I suspect his life is going to be far less welcoming and friendly from now on.
