Sorry for the Wail link.

Would just be interested to hear the thoughts of folk on here and in particular, what would you have done in a situation as described?

An unfortunate over reaction. Guy deserved having his card marked but this sounds like a classic "red mist" scenario fulled by lager.

Absolutely.

Silly question but what is sentencing for that type of thing like over there?

Would he be allowed to appeal to serve his sentence here?

He'll probably get 15 years. Likely to serve it there I guess.

Sad situation - moment of loss of control.

So a bloke is caught filming a young girl on his iPad. The father walks over and demands he stops to which the bloke refuses.

Father smashes the ipad on the floor and punches the bloke once in the face and he dies.

Turns out the bloke fliming was under investigation for possesing child porn.

While I understand it is against the law to punch someone, I am sure many people wouldn't be able to control their anger in this situation. What a cataclysmic course of events.

If as reported then it seems there was an unfortunate end as a result of a punch. Not only for the German guy but more so for the Brit.

Except that the father had no idea of the German's record and even the Mail reported that the German guy 'appeared to be taking pictures of the whole restaurant' (or words to the effect).

For one punch ' if accurate' while a possible known offender was caught in the act and then being belligerent?

I'm sure that would be mitigating circumstances, if he was jumping up and down on his head. Then yeah throw the key away.

Not having much sympathy here for the german guy if the story is accurate.

Does one punch constitute "beat to death" or just DM headline hyperbole?

This is all true.

It may be that nobody ever knows the full story - the father could have noticed the guy at other times in the holiday filming children and had his suspicions. Or, as you pointed out it could be a father in a rage who has needlessly killed a man.

I'm struggling to have any sympathy for a man who was under investigation for child porn who was sat alone filming people, including children on his iPad in a restaurant.

Why would seeing someone filming on an iPad in a public place send someone over the edge?

Bloke is an idiot. Thrown many years of his life away for what? No excuse for loosing control like that.

Eggshell skull principle. Take your victim as you find them. Tragic for the father and daughter. Bloke was clearly a perv.

There but for the grace of God we all go, because if I'd caught the dirty sod and had a few lagers on board I would most likely have given him a right hander.

Moral of the story?

No many people die from traumatic castration. Less than from a single punch. Just sayin'.

It wouldn't normally. So why assume that's how it happened.

Isn't it more likely that he was making it really obvious?

I don't think people on holidays with the kids tend to just go and beat up random people. But strange things happen.

No he didn't know that he was already under investigation so he must have made it damn obvious that he was dodgy I would have thought, no.?

So other PHers would sit in a restaurant filming other diners they don't know on their mobile devices?

Was the bloke doing a PhD in People Watching?

Perhaps recognised him from a well known reality TV programme set in a small Northern village?

Maybe not, but SP&L abounds with tales along the lines of 'I was innocently taking pictures of the flora and fauna in my local park when a hideous Harpy (no doubt a lefty and almost certainly a lesbian) approached me and said I couldn't film as there were children about. Of course, I know my rights and I'm powerfully built, so I told her to Foxtrot Oscar.' etc, etc.

A clip on sky news I just watched said the father looked at what was on the iPad, which sent him radio rental.

Not sure if it's true, but I wouldn't expect to get a clump off anyone because I'm looking at my iPad. The guy must have been blatant in filming the mans child, or something seen over the shoulder whilst filming the child.

No one likes people like this. Being a father myself, I'd have probably done something along the same lines. Or maybe confiscated his ipad and called police. Not big or clever, but I doubt I'd have been able to bite my lip and ignore it. I'd have bitten it clean off!!

You can't go around killing people for Public Order offences:

And anyway they probably have different laws in Spain.
