Skype is the work of five guys, one of them was Swedish, the others were a Dane and three Estonians, but of course it's fully and entirely a Swedish feat... Quite a telling tale of how the truth gets modified to fit.

Sweden has always been good at marketing their own, but lately the tone has changed and is now more about how superior Sweden is to any other country, all created and backed up by media, probably to try to sweep the very real issues here under the carpet.

There is a funny attitude towards rape in Sweden. There is a park in Trollhättan that has been the scene of a number of rapes of young girls after nights out drinking that, for whatever reason, chose not to take a cab home. I asked my fiance why the police didn't patrol it at night and she didn't have an answer but just said that girls know what happens there so they shouldn't go there at night!

Democracy isn't entirely dead yet! Although the socialists in government may very well be very shortly.

Basically, the 'December Agreement' (or DÖ for short, which means 'DIE') has been an unmitigated disaster. The Sweden Democrats have grown from 12.9% in the 2014 election to touching 30% in some polls, while the established parties have collapsed. To a large extent because of immigration policy but also because a lot of right-wing voters are a bit... miffed that a right-wing majority results in a socialist minority government with the explicit support of the right wing. A bit like voting for the Tories and Dave turning around to say 'sorry, we're in the majority but we're gonna give Millipede a chance anyway'. It's madness, and all because of the big bad wacists.

So, now the Christian Democrats have actually listened to their voters for once and decided not to honour the agreement. In practical terms it probably doesn't mean much, they're a small party and don't have enough votes to become king makers. However without a united front the deal is now only advantageous to the socialists and on top of that the CDs will now absolutely murder the other right wing parties, whose disillusioned members will now have a socially acceptable party to turn to. It'll force the Moderates (Tories) to do the same in next week's party meeting if they have any survival instinct left, and that'll be the definite end of the socialists. We'll have a somewhat functioning democracy again.

I'm guessing we'll see a snap election some time next year.


EDIT: The Moderate party leader has now declared the agreement dead and buried. If she truly means it then the socialists should encounter some serious difficulty in getting their budget through. Game on.

As it says, welcoming immigrants to Sweden was a political power-play and not about the welfare or rights of the immigrants or the Swedes.

Which was also the case when New Labour decided to be willfully negligent with our UK borders, to annoy their opponents, and increase their client vote.

I would say things are certainly being tested, there are now Red Cross staff posted on Gothenburg station every night and in my local community they held a town meeting last night (which was not that advertised) about trying to find extra accommodation, they are now trying to find sports clubs that have space to use as accommodation. Locally they are looking to take a small shed that is used by the local RC aircraft club.

I was there last week at the station, it's not just at night, they're there all day. Also never seen anywhere near as many police there before.

I have to say I don't feel safe at Gothenburg Central Station anymore, glad I only have to go in twice a week at the moment.
