You don't know that. 'Recession' is applied retrospectively after two quarters of contraction. You might not know till 6 months later.

To get to two quarters of contraction we need to first have... one quarter of contraction.

As we have not even had one fiscal quarter in which US GDP has fallen I'm totally and utterly confident that the US is not in recession.

Any views on Spunky's comments about GDP being the mathematically impossible LESS than zero?

I noticed it when he said that too and assumed he misspoke meaning GDP growth.

Yes but we haven't had the figures for right now yet, so in future now could be labelled as in recession. For sure the US economy is in the toilet. The support for Trump and Bernie would not exist if this were not so.

Interestingly enough the USA is one of the few developed countries where GDP revisions tend to be downwards rather than upwards. Most of the rest tend to underestimate on their first calculation.

But yes two consecutive quarters where it has fallen instead of risen would be one major error.

I notice that Trump is now taking on directly the denuding of Western Industry by China.

There is a rich vein of serious issues in this attack.

The crony-capitalists will hate Trump even more (if that is possible) if he really exposes this rape of the West's industrial power-base.

It's a high stakes attack though, again he can be shot at by both sides, the Chinese by dint of further aggressive manipulation and the crony-caps that have grown rich of the rape of the West. Exciting and brave.

You can't blame companies wanting to cut costs where possible, that includes getting stuff done abroad where cheaper. The problem (if you perceive this as one) is the system allows it to be cheaper to move stuff abroad.

No, but if you make a point of criticising how unfair the market is because of Chinese state assistance, then take advantage of it, then it's somewhat hypocritical to say the least.

And when all the companies are taking advantage of it, if you are the only one preaching and paying a higher cost per unit, you are an idiot for making yourself uncompetetive in the market. No glory in getting beat cos you preferred to preach morality when everyone else is busy using all advantages available.

Hoosiers vote today. Looks like Indiana republican voters have decided that Cruz is just too reptilian to stomach. If Trump wins it's pretty much over and the GOP will officially be sleepwalking over the cliff in November. It's been fun to see disgusting a-hole Mike Pence holding his nose and half heartedly backing Cruz in the desperate hope that somehow he can win and keep the bigoted bungler in the governors mansion in Indianapolis. No doubt he'll endorse Trump tomorrow!

Did they show the footage in the UK of Cruz attempting meaningful dialogue with one of the Hoosier state's finest Trump fan boys yesterday? laugh I guess it illustrated the sort of mentality that the other GOP candidates have had to deal with but it shows the level of desperation in Cruz that he was prepared to try and reason with the missing link.

Surely the other option is to make the place of manufacture a selling point - ' Good ole American made' - and charge a premium.

On the Trump vs Hillary front, the article below makes an interesting case that the numbers will favour the Dems............

Yes providing the selling point is strong enough to cover the price increase. I suspect that 99% of the time it isn't.

Their Indiana figures are ludicrous. All the local and national polls here have Hillary ahead by about 4%, basically the margin of error. I think she'll win it but to say her chances are 78% is bizarre.
