A brilliant night last night, my only worry is how they will top it. The contrast with last week is stark. The GOP convention painted a dark and depressing picture, last night was hopeful and unifying. Hell, we even had Paul Simon singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water". biggrin

Don't under estimate the power of what Sarah Silverman said. She's been so vocal in support of Bernie and is very popular with the young lefties who support him. She was off script and improvising with Al Franken as they had to fill while Paul Simon set up. Her "You're being ridiculous" comment to the Bernie or Busters was off the cuff and really resonated.

The democrats are united. There will be a few who want an even more progressive agenda who will drift Greenwards and that's fine. They were going there before Bernie ran. He was magnificent and unequivocal in his endorsement. Trump was reduced to his pathetic Pocahontas tweeting again. What an utter arse.

They all look like arses from here, to be fair.

In the direction of the Green party candidate, as in "towards Green" or Greenwards. biggrin

JO is incredibly popular this side of the pond, particularly amongst young Bernie types. Which is good as he hates Trump and will ridicule him for the next 3 months. As will Colbert, Corden, Fallon, Stewart and every other late night comedian. And SNL will be back just before the GE. All good stuff.

rofl where do you get your information from?!

The young sanders supporters you mention are revolting over her comments rofl

An accurate summary.

There's a reason why he's virtually unknown in the UK.

Sore spot? Every comic is doing rounds on Brexit. Unsurprisingly, given the circumstances.

Many of the other comedians are actually amusing though.

His audiences of 4.6 mil tend to disagree with you. I quite like his bits on brexit/trump. I can see why brexiters might be tad upset.

Unknown here.

As this thread is about the US election and Oliver's show is made in and for the US market and shown on HBO in America, what's your point? Who cares what people in the UK think of him or his views? I'm pretty sure he doesn't, he's a permanent resident of the USA, married to a US citizen and making a fortune here.

Her comments were embarassing, which she clearly knows, as you could see her struggling to not get emotional regarding the reception she got. It's also why she chanted unity instead of Hillary. hehe

I don't understand how any human being can hear Cheryl Lankford's story, or those of thousands of others who were scammed by this Ponzi scheme, and not detest Donald Trump.

The shy tory effect on polls is well known. The shy leaver effect was discussed here but ingored by the pollsters and whaddya know. This morning an american friend raised the subject of shy republicans, ashamed to admit they are going to vote for Trump... Even with Trump, incredibly, ahead, I wonder how accurate the US polls are and are they infact undercounting his vote? Blimey.

In other news, who the fvck goes to these conventions? What a bunch of wierdos.
