Many of the other comedians are actually amusing though.
His audiences of 4.6 mil tend to disagree with you. I quite like his bits on brexit/trump. I can see why brexiters might be tad upset.
As I said earlier, in the US.

Unknown here.
As this thread is about the US election and Oliver's show is made in and for the US market and shown on HBO in America, what's your point? Who cares what people in the UK think of him or his views? I'm pretty sure he doesn't, he's a permanent resident of the USA, married to a US citizen and making a fortune here.
Agreed.

I was responding to jjlynn27's post, " I can see why brexiters might be tad upset".

You've made my point for me.

We do, however, have the opportunity to watch his show on UK TV too.

I don't understand how any human being can hear Cheryl Lankford's story, or those of thousands of others who were scammed by this Ponzi scheme, and not detest Donald Trump.

Compare that highly polished, rehearsed DNC video to this video:

I know which evokes a stronger emotional reaction for me.

IF its a show for Americans in America, then why is he rattling on about brexit then? Which is f all to do with the upcoming elections! I've asked all my old US friends if they know whats been going on here........nope, no idea. So its just a scratch head moment for his viewers, although he does like to take the p$ss out of his county of birth. Now back to Billary.

He often covers international happenings. He likes to highlight the absurd and if it's overseas then that's fine.

(Brexit has been very well covered here and reported extensively in the media. I was getting asked about it daily a month ago. If your friends really have no clue about it then it probably says more about them than it does about anything else...)

laugh

Bernie was sabotaged and still backed them. They have immense political and media influence. Foreign politicians are slamming Trump. Facebook and Twitter censor DNC leaks. The deck could not be much more stacked in their favour, and despite all this; they're still polling worse than Trump.

I guess if people stopped exposing all the corruption and shady st they're doing, they'd be faring better laugh

Because it's funny. Because UK comediens are taking potshots at Trumpanzees. If your friends don't know about brexit, they must lead very sheltered life.

Yeah, I got that. Standard fund raising email. You always tell your donors that it's really tight or you're behind so they send you lots of cash. They did it about once a day during the primary's too. laugh

The one thing no campaign wants is complacency, you want to keep everyone motivated to campaign, fund raise and untimately to vote. It's a well proven method of keeping troops on their toes and getting the vote out. Airey Neave, genuius organizer of Thatcher's 1975 leadership campaign adopted it as a strategy. Right up to the end he was putting about in the tea room and the bar of the house that Heath was winning and winning easily. Not only did it turn the vote out but some Heathites, believing Ted to be well ahead, voted for Thatcher so as to give Heath a scare! That worked well.

the campaign seems to be spending way too much time spinning a narrative about Russian involvement, even going so far as to call on Hillary's friends at the FBI to look into the issue, for this scandal to fade quietly into the night. Something tells us that Jennifer knows more than she's letting on and that we'll get to review some more leaked emails soon.

Alternatively, we're sure Bill could arrange for a purely coincidental meeting with Putin on a tarmac somewhere to discuss his "grandchildren" but something tells us his audience might not be as "accommodating" as last time he tried that.

Nope to all that. One mate, who has just died from cancer, we chatted for hrs in the mornings as he couldn't sleep told me it was hardly reported in Florida!

It's nothing to do with the campaign. Numerous cyber security experts have come forward to make the claims and they are pretty well substantiated.

The fact is that Trump has stated that he would not necessarily support NATO countries in the event of an attack. Music to Putin's ears. To have an incompetent like Trump with no clue on foreign policy in the White House is his wet dream.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. But people that I know say that it was widely reported in the days after the brexit, with almost universal disbelief and ridicule. You can still access the web pages for news sites on the days after brexit.
The fact that JO is 'rattling' about it to 4.6 mil viewers is because they do know about it. It seems that you are upset that people are taking obvious potshots at the whole thing.

Very interesting discussion on NPR at lunchtime. With the ousting of serial abuser Roger Ailes as the head of FOX News there is much speculation as to his replacement and the future direction of the channel. The rumor is that James Murdoch wants to move the station into the center, away from the extreme right where it has been positioned since Ailes founded it. If that happens the GOP base will have to return to their radios to hear the kind of bilge that they enjoy. Trouble is many stations have already dumped Limbaugh and co as they too move towards the center. Where will the rabid right get their news from if FOX deserts them?

ERRRRRRRRRRRRM no. Not 'making a point" just telling like it is. Not taking "pot shots". I am not "upset".

In the West coast cities and similar places, people'll talk about it, but for vast swathes of the US they are not bothered about most of what goes on outside the state lines if it's not a federal issue. They are the majority.

The Russian narrative is one of my favorite developments. And this is just the beginning of the carnival sideshow.

The bottom line is that most Americans know deep down where all of the anger is coming from, and that goes for both sides. The American way of life is crumbling, along with its institutions. The empire is overstretched, and can no longer control the narrative. There is no righting the sinking ship. Trump is the naked, unfettered ID of the average American, and Hillary, in many ways, simply a female version. Both serve the same masters.

Both will provide continued war for profit, further deregulate Wall St., and continue moving jobs from America to low-wage developing countries. There is no way to change it, even if they wanted to, and both are too invested in the system to ever risk it anyways. Pull up a seat, and grab your popcorn.

I live in the Midwest and I got asked about it constantly in the weeks before and after the vote.

Why cant Oliver just let it go re Brexit.............
Because he's a pound shop Ben Elton and Brexit is his Thatcher.
JO is incredibly popular this side of the pond, particularly amongst young Bernie types. Which is good as he hates Trump and will ridicule him for the next 3 months. As will Colbert, Corden, Fallon, Stewart and every other late night comedian. And SNL will be back just before the GE. All good stuff.
Of course he is, he spotted a gap in the market, nicked Eltons style wholesale and made a killing. Good for him. At some point in the future everyone will realise what an absolute he is and he will have to start writing dodgy musicals.
