I didn't specify an area, plus I reckon knowing a Brit would skew any cognition.
It was probably a relief to not have to hear about how amazing Hilary is for a change.

Of course he is, he spotted a gap in the market, nicked Eltons style wholesale and made a killing. Good for him. At some point in the future everyone will realise what an absolute he is and he will to start writing dodgy musicals.

In the West coast cities and similar places, people'll talk about it, but for vast swathes of the US they are not bothered about most of what goes on outside the state lines if it's not a federal issue. They are the majority.
My judgement was from
a) speaking to people
b) looking at the news sites (every single one had brexit as a main story on 24th).
But you are right, probably for most it would be 'what's all the fuss about' hence the google top search was 'what is eu' the day after ref.
Saying that, JO was doing quite a few brexit themed shows, I doubt that he would be doing them if his audience wasn't clued up enough to understand. Highly recommended viewing.

That should lose her a few of Bernies supporters.

Spoke to an ex-colleague today in NY. He remarked at a family gathering at the weekend that maybe Trump wouldn't be the complete disaster everyone was predicting and everyone would just have to make the best of it if he won. His own family said he must be thick or racist to say that! He is neither of course. Reminded me of another recent election where people got fed up being called thick and racist... this could all go horribly wrong!

There are obviously remarkable similarities.

The same protagonists on here too. I wonder if they will lose for a 2nd time?

Yep. I suspect we will see a lot of folks moving that way.

There are a number of reasons I could never vote for him, but honestly, I think he may be the safer choice where foreign policy is concerned. But even if that is true in actuality, it would only serve to prolong the invitable. The forces that shape US foreign and domestic policy are not something the president can control alone.

I'm certain my friend won't either. I just thought the parallel to the Brexit 'debate' was funny. Turns out you don't convince people to vote for you by dismissing them as thick and racist... imagine that!

God the difference between the anger and darkness of last week and the optimism of this is quite stark. Elizabeth Banks did a very funny skit ripping the piss out of Trump's entrance last week. This time Queen are happy for "We are the champions" to be used. Interesting that while Trump had to scrape the barrel to get retreads who nobody could remember like Scott Baio to speak at his convention the likes of Banks, Meryl Streep, Katy Perry, Lena Dunham, Demi Lovato, Eva Longoria and others are lining up to speak for Hillary. Then there's President Obama, Michelle Obama, President Clinton, Madeline Albright, President Carter, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker etc....

Big Dog speaking now, very moving, excellent speech.

Unrepentant, not to piss on your parade, but did you notice that all the above are a perfect representation of that establishment most middle America is very angry with?

This is starting to look like the Remain group for Brexit on a larger scale: arrogant, condescending and superficial.

They are ignoring the elephant in the room (which is not Trump) and promising more of the same to people who have had more than enough of that.

IRS open Clinton Foundation Investigation

I wonder if the IRS will come to the same conclusion as the FBI, that Clinton did break the law, and normally people would face charges, but no charges will be brought. Is she 'not sophisticated' (as FBI director said) enough to know she has to pay taxes? smile

Well with regards to JO, yeah. I'm a big fan of John OLiver, but his audience is the sort of people who are interested in that stuff, like us, we chat politics, across the world, most don't, people are more clued up when they are interested. Most of my American friends are, because they are the types that come into contact with the outside world more often. I'm not saying that Yanks are anymore insular than Brits either, just that the majority (of most places) aren't really that bothered about elsewhere beyond titbits.

50/50, phone a friend....

Smugness bit a lot of people in the bum (CMD, GO etc) and cost them a referendum.

Exclude George Bush Snr (single term) and it seems a long time since America voted for more than 2 terms of a Dem / Rep President.

A year of upsets (starting with Trump's nomination) and the establishment still don't get it smile

And this is now, not after another decade of income stagnation and growing job insecurity.
