It's a bit like the Queen, in theory, being able to fire the PM.

There is no meeting of the electoral college in each state. The states are awarded as the votes are tallied, winner takes all. The first states will be called soon after the polls close.
They don't get together? How is it done?
How's what done? On election night the votes are counted and a winner is declared, end of story. California has 55 electoral college votes. The person who wins the most votes in California gets all 55. That's it, there's no discussion about it.
The people's votes are counted and then the elector votes in accordance, they must do this after the people or they wouldn't know who to vote for. Seems one fella voted wrong in 2004...

So unrepentant, it's pretty clear who you're rooting for but will you be able to vote at the election?

Anyone heard the latest? Trump has effectively called on Russia to carry out espionage in the USA.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/27/politics/donald-trum...

The man is a liability for the world. I cannot see how any sane person can vote for him.
I think Trump is a bad joke but get a grip. Russia arn't going to 'hack America' because Trump asked them to, I think they might have done it already. Maybe. Anyway surely if all those deleted emails are recovered HC can be properly and fully exonerated right? Right?
If it's the press conference he did the other day, he didn't ask anyone to carry out espionage. He said he wouldn't be surprised if Russia (or someone else) has the emails already. If they do he'd like to see them. Rather different.

Looks like that prediction was wrong. Tim Kaine made quite a play about Trump's failure to release his tax returns. Even Fox News's Bret Baier was pressing this point with a Trump surrogate.

On the e-mail hacking thing, how would you react if Putin's Russia was hacking the RNC in support of Hillary and she was encouraging them to do so Jimbeaux? Would you be writing it off as a storm in a teacup?

It's always interesting to be told that Russia is the great force to be feared. When one looks at it from a third unbiased perspective, it isn't Russia who has gone around bombing and invading for the last few decades.

Your context is wrong. It's about Hillary's private email server during her time as SoS, it is not related to the DNC leaks.

Foreign intelligence agencies around the world will have intercepted these emails; that is their job. Her private server was so poorly secured it would have been very simple for them to do so.

So, the actual context is:

Hillary illegally sent and received government records, and classified information, through an insecure, unauthorised, private email server.

She was instructed to turn over all of her work related emails during her time as SoS, she failed to do so. These 30,000 deleted emails are what Trump is referring to.

Don't get me wrong, the4 USA isn't lily-white in this respect either. However the current White House incumbent has done a lot to try and improve things. He's not (at least not openly) invaded other countries or started illegal wars. The continued operation of Guantanamo and drone assasinations aren't something to be proud of either. However I do think that the world has a lot less to fear from the US than Russia.

I'm not sure that my context is wrong.

I'm referring to the e-mails released by Wikileaks the other day which were hacked from the DNC, which led to the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schulz. That is the e-mail hack which is being investigated by the FBI and which seems to have been carried out by the Russians. It is in reference to that hack which Trump went on to encourage that the Russians might further be able to dig up Hillary's e-mails.

Donald Trump appeared to call on Russian intelligence agencies Wednesday to find 30,000 of Hillary Clinton's deleted emails, adding a stunning twist to the uproar over Moscow's alleged intervention in the presidential election.

"They probably have her 33,000 e-mails. I hope they do. They probably have her 33,000 e-mails that she lost and deleted because you'd see some beauties there. So let's see," Trump said at a news conference in Florida.

He was referring to emails on the personal server that Clinton used to conduct official business as secretary of state but that she deemed private and did not hand over to the State Department.

The world as a whole, not sure about that, if another neocon gets in, then there'll be more trouble before bedtime.

Trumps tax returns will be one of THE issues over the next 3 months. The reality is that he dare not publish them and they will be one of the issues that hang him. There's plenty of others though...

Just a few of many great quotes from last night;

Bloomberg: Truth be told, the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy.

Bloomberg: Together, let's elect a SANE and competent person

Kaine: Hillary's passion is kids and families. Donald Trump has a passion too: It's himself

Obama: For four years, I had a front-row seat to her intelligence, her judgment, and her discipline. I came to realize that her unbelievable work ethic wasn't for praise or attention - that she was in this for everyone who needs a champion

Obama: Anyone who threatens our values, whether fascists or communists or jihadists or homegrown demagogues, will always fail in the end

Biden: He (Trump) has no clue about what makes America great. Actually, he has no clue period

This convention has been very positive. Whereas last week was all about negativity and darkness and how awful everything was this week has been about how great American really is and how we have to carry on building on what we have. References to Trump have generally been factual rather that the fantastical rubbish that was spouted about Clinton last week. We've had a week of cheering whereas last week was all booing and fear mongering. You'll also see that speeches have been finishing at around 11.30 to a packed arena every single night. Last week speakers were talking to a half empty room by 11pm.

I think you'll see Clinton campaign very positively and leave it to the others to go after Trump after this week. Trump will be beaten by his own words, the man has proven himself to be totally unfit for any public office, let alone that of president. I repeat, I cannot understand how any rational person can vote for him. He has not one single redeeming feature.

No, he's simply done it covertly. Aside from Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and Syria, which were pretty overt.

But you don't care. It is just a list.

Given Hillary's track record, that is quite possibly the funniest thing anyone's ever said on this thread laugh

The head of the FBI effectively called her incompetent. When he was asked if a reasonable person would know they were sending/receiving classified information, he questioned whether HRC was 'sophisticated' enough to be able to tell what a (c) means.

Under the auspices of the UN.

I don't remember invading Pakistan, let alone going to war with them? Unless you're referencing the mission to kill Bin Laden?

America cannot be isolationist.
