Bloody hell, just when you think Trump's ideas can't get any more controversial.

Donald Trump Calls for Ban on Muslim Entry Into U.S.
Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the U.S., his campaign said Monday afternoon.

That's as dumb as asking "are you a terrorist" on entry. The only Muslims they'd stop are the ones not willing to lie to get in. And even that would mean changing the constitution to allow the state to discriminate against religions.

The guy is either an idiot, doesn't want to win, or else is just loving having a platform to rant from. Or all three.

He's gone full retard. I can only guess that he's either had a TIA or he's actively trying to give the other GoP candidates a target to point at and go "I'm not that guy" at the next hustings.

Generally you can look at a politician and think "I don't like what he says or his policies but I don't doubt he's fundamentally decent". I disliked Romney's policies but I'm sure he was an ok person, likewise John McCain before him. Corbyn has wacky policies but just like Tony Benn I'm sure he's a decent human being. Trump is not a decent human being and that's what separates him from everyone else in this race. He's a genuinely nasty racist, misogynistic, egosistical asshole and the sooner we don't have to listen to his bile the better. In short he's a CT.

If nothing else a Trump nomination would lead to a high turnout. I imagine he'll motivate the proles of the right far more than someone like McCain ever would have. The sheer terror of having him in power should motivate Dem voters. It would be interesting to see a Trump vs Sanders election.

If Trump and Hillary got the nominations could that possibly open up the running for a centrist Independent candidate.

Hillary is a centrist candidate.

The backlash is pretty intense here but it will roll off Trump, it always does. This is destroying the republican brand, if Priebus had any balls he's expel Trump from the party. He'd run as a 3rd candidate but he's going to anyway so better for the GOP to kick him out now and allow someone to emerge.

I realize you are not an American, but please do some more research on American politicians. McCain is a piece of human dung, and only a few degrees removed from a full-blown fascist.

I disagree. I don't agree with most of what he says, I think he's a bitter old man but I believe at core he's fundamentally decent. I've also lived, worked and been politically engaged in the USA for long enough to form my own opinions thanks buddy.

I thought McCain problem was that he was fairly liberal (or at least libertarian) for a Republican?

That and the poor judgement in picking Sarah Palin as a running mate.

The latter was fatal.

You think he's serious about running?

He's promised not to of course but has said he will if he thinks that the GOP don't "treat him fairly". He will consider being beaten by another candidate as unfair. If he ran as a 3rd party candidate they are fked as he'll take 10/15% of their vote and that will screw them in most states and they know that. But they're fked anyway because if they really were crazy enough to let him win their nomination he'd get annihilated in the GE, if they don't he'll run against them and screw them anyway. Their best best would be to throw him out of the party and then turn all their guns on him IMO. It's a mess however you look at it but it's their fault for pandering to the bigoted clown in the first place. The good news is that because they are allowing him to run in their name the Hillary campaign can throw everything he says at whoever the candidate eventually is.

Have to wonder if Mitt Romney wishes he'd run now. I imagine he would be the leading GOP runner and also could probably beat Clinton if she was the democrat nominee.

Bit of a plank.

Is Jeb Bush the only non-crazy in the GoP race?

Kasich is the least bonkers.

You have to appear bonkers to win the nomination because the GOP electorate are bonkers. Non crazy candidates who aren't foaming at the mouth over abortion, immigration and guns don't stand a chance. Rubio and Bush are relatively sane but it is a relative term when talking about republican politicians.

I think Palin was imposed upon him because he was too normal for the GOP. Their core demographic ranges from "mildly nutty" to "Trump is a wishy washy liberal".
