Basically he's a narcisisst - he craves adulation and approval. The Birther stuff kept him in the headlines and won him the approval of Rednecks who didnt like Obama because he's black, and the "Closet Rednecks" (didn't like Obama because he's black but weren't brave enough to say so). You could guess who they were because they'd never condemn the Birther movement.

If somebody stands up and makes a statement then they should certainly be judged on it. However, holding opinions and drawing conclusions from things that people don't say (Yeah, well he may not say it but I know what he's thinking) is an Orwellian step. That'll teach me to skim read, in honesty apart from reading about the Allepo comments (probably in here tbh) I haven't heard of him before.

It beggars belief that he could carry on like that though, I refuse to believe that he is really so ignorant regarding current affairs and if he is surely somebody from the past would do just fine instead
