What must be remembered on these great days.....
For every VC awarded for outstanding Valour.... Many deserved VCs are not awarded.... Because these heroic deeds go unreported as there must be living witnesses that corroborate the actions. Unfortunately many a hero dies on the battlefield unrecognised, and many a heroic deed goes unwitnessed, even if the hero lives.
That's true. During WW1 there were many individual acts of gallantry that went unrewarded. Back then, A VC could only be awarded if a courageous act was witnessed by at least two officers.
But fair play to Lance Corporal Leakey VC. He's worth more than a hundred IS cowards.

I went to school with Josh and feel honoured to call him a good friend - such modesty about such incredible heroism.
He didn't want to let the cap badge down; this comment reverberates in my head. It is something -pride- which is not often seen these days, especially not in such an awful situation. All too easy to get down on your belt buckle and hope that the battle passes you by. I hope the USMC decorate him also, their Captain would have been a goner without his bravery.

Next time you see him, please tell him that there is an ex-squaddie beaming with pride for the lad. He's a credit to his Regiment, the Army and his country. His interview cracked me up - "they'd be in this rather awkward position now, stood here in the centre of London doing this" It's really nice to see and hear that given the amount of cocky talentless gob stes we see day in day out on the TV.
I have a good mate who's in 1 para with him. Apparently he's a top bloke. I think you will find some details are going to be held back (they might come out in time) because of his role and the type of work they do. But just from what I've heard about the bloke rest assured he fully fully deserved his gong.

This is the sort of person young people should look up to, not some hip hop star or halfwit reality TV person.
Real bravery, real humility and outstanding class in everyway.
Having been to a passing out ceremony a few years ago, it is reassuring we still have a huge amount of good young men and women the whole country should be proud of.

I hope that the Yanks also reward his gallantry. At least, the Silver Star for Valour.
I beleive thats the highest award they could give him, should they choose to do so. Their highest award, The Medal of Honour , is restricted to either members of US forces , or US citizens only, I cannot recall which. Either way members of other armed forces cannot we awarded the MOH. I shall hear more about this , my son in laws cousin is i n the same unit as the brave Mr Leakey. He'll be well made up as even being in the same mob.
