Migration into UK soars
Discussion
Cameron's policy on immigration is toast. Pity
"The Government has officially failed to deliver on its pledge to slash net migration to the tens of thousands before the general election as the last batch of official figures before May 7 revealed another surge in arrivals.
There was a net flow of 298,000 migrants to the UK in the year to September, equal to the population of a city roughly the size of Nottingham and up from 210,000 in the previous 12 months, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The increase in net migration was driven by a "statistically significant" rise in immigrants arriving in the UK - up to 624,000 in the year to September from 530,000 in the previous 12 months. Around 327,000 people emigrated from the UK in the same period.
Today's figures are the final nail in the coffin for the promise made by Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May to slash net migration to below 100,000 by the end of the current parliamentary term.
There were significant increases in immigration of non-EU citizens - up 49,000 to 292,000 - and European Union citizens - up 43,000 to 251,000"

How many people died in the UK in the same period?
There were 506,790 deaths registered in England and Wales in 2013, a rise of 1.5% compared with 2012.
So equivalent to city twice the size of Nottingham died in 2013....

As control of our borders to EU migrants remains in the hands of an undemocratic third party this should come as no surprise to anybody, nor will the trend change, in my opinion, as other European countries continue to economically suffer and by comparison, we do not, allegedly.
Non-EU immigration has also increased. Cameron has done nothing to reduce third-world immigration despite having the power to do so. He is an enemy of the British people.Burrow01 said:

How do you prpose to fill current vacancies if we can't import skills?
In any case, immigration and flow of labour is as capitalistic as it gets.
Are there more big issue spots left to fill? My mistake, I thought every waitrose had a Romanian outside already... Carry on with a non-criteria led open border. In any case, immigration and flow of labour is as capitalistic as it gets.
p.s. Are bailouts part of capitalism too?

Do you really think there are 500,000 or so jobs a year that can only be filled from abroad?.A skilled worker visa scheme would see migration in the tens of thousands not hundreds of thousands.
It was a stupid promise made to attract stupid voters. It was clearly undeliverable. Furthermore delivering it would have been a bad thing. We attract a lot of cheap foreign labour and a lot of extremely highly skilled foreign labour. If that's more competition for our homegrown workers at either end of the skills scale, good. Competition is good. Diversity is good. Anyone who feels threatened by it, tough.
