It's my belief that the senior leadership of the police have, post-MacPherson, been wont to put 'community cohesion' at or near the top of their priorities - certainly higher than the investigation of complaints of abuse from teenage tearaways directed at BAME groups.

It's pretty clear that the same concerns lay behind the Met's tardy response to the trouble on the streets in 2011.
Still sounds like political inteference from without, I can't think why such policies would benefit the police directly.

No benefit for the police institutionally, or no benefit for the careers of senior police officers?

Where does that benefit come from though? Not from within, from without. Hence political interference from without.

Common purpose female art graduate, she couldn't fit the role more if she wrapped herself in a diversity flag and covered herself in paint at Notting hill carnival.

This exactly. Completely coated in Teflon. If she had managed to oversee the shooting of the odd innocent man she could be in line to head the Met.

Let's just hope that Brexit delivers sufficiently robust borders that, in the great tradition of non-jobs, she won't actually have much to do in the role. Promoted out of harm's way?
