Why on earth did this make the local newspaper?
Because the sad fker contacted them and they had nothing more interesting to write about, normally.

'Michael, who lives with his husband Michael...'

Be honest - you had to read that twice as well.
The part that made me read it twice is his name is Michael Knight.

TURBO BOOST!
The comments reveal he changed his name to Michael Knight, oddball!!

On the subject of Sooty, some leftie do-gooder once overheard me referring to a Honda Acty and calling it a "Sooty van".

Leftie hand-wringing-do-gooder-apologist steams straight into my conversation calling me a racist. They looked a right bellend when informed that it was a "Sooty van" because that's what Matthew used to drive Sooty, Sweep and Sue round in.

Reading the title I thought Operation Yewtree had found its next target...

Genuinely 100% thought that as well!

I'm quite relieved upon reading the thread... I couldn't cope with any more of my childhood being ruined!

Ha ha!

My dad used to have a white Suzuki Supercarry (Bedford Rascal under a different name) as part of his van fleet as it was ideal for the town deliveries, and everyone reffered to it as 'the Sooty van' smile

Going slightly off target, I always thought Sweep was a little sweetie, always being put on by Sooty.
But then a few weeks ago, I watched an episode not having seen one for about 50 years - what a little st stirrer Sweep is. An absolute wind up merchant.
Changed my mindset completely.

Looks like he lives in a block of flats? Pity, he could have consoled himself by having a barbeque and cooking a sweep steak..
