Apparently they have to walk almost 2 miles into the jungle before they will be killed. And they're going to do this in the middle of the night? yikes That walk will be worse than the actual moment you're killed.

Makes me feel sick thinking about it.

How people can agree with the death penalty I can not comprehend. Its beyond sick.

Indonesia a corrupt and horrid country - another great example of the peaceful religion.
it's actually an example of different religions getting on rather well. Have you ever been there?
the events within living memory probably play quite a part in that
Accepting the point that you're making, I spend most Ramadans over there & the tolerance/respect for others' beliefs is massively greater than here.

we're talking about the mainland Indonesia
Bearing in mind that Indonesia is a federated group of islands, where is this 'mainland' of which you speak?

If you don't want to be executed don't deal drugs in country's were they give you the death penalty for doing it !
It's no good crying about it, should not of been a dick in the first place and the problem would of not occurred !
No sympathy, a distinct lack of brain power or big payout is no replacement for being alive

It made me feel sick also, but better than a life in jail, and much more of a deterrant.

Bet their tourism industry loves this kind of positive publicity.

Really baffled by the bleeding hearts on here.

Don't deal drugs! Real simple and it is no secret this place has a zero tolerance of it.

And before you all start, give a thought to the drug victims!

+1. They knew the risks they were taking.

a strange but frequent comment from uninformed foreigners - tourism's share of indonesia's GDP is the same as in the uk

Bit on the fence with this one

Having been to SE Asia and a few nights in Singapore the strict rules really do work, it's the safest city in the world and it feels it as well as being super clean

However i can't help but feel this is taking it abit too far, 12 gunmen yet only 3 have live rounds and I presume they aim for the cross on your chest? What if they are feeling mean and aim for the stomach and legs so you suffer more until they get to go over and do the head shot ( after you have been assessed)

What's wrong with aiming for the head to ensure an instant death, and the whole build up just seems cruel

The whole process sounds like something hitler or Islamic state would be proud of

Sad yes but where ever you go in the world you need to respect the law of the land or suffer the consequences if you don't. Whilst its a harsh punishment its laid out in black and white what the consequences are before you commit the crime.

invoking singapore highlights the rub though - its clean facade is built on a fair bit of nastiness

I'm sure the "drugs victims" knew the risks too, but being all bleeding heart is fine for this, right?

I thought I read all were being shot simultaneously - going to need more than 12 marksmen ?
All very well the Aussies begging for clemency. They tipped off the authorities in Indonesia as they were about to leave. Knowing the consequences for their citizens why not arrest on landing. I don't get it.

Well as usual the comments are not thought out and make sweeping assumptions. I wasn't talking about the drug takers you ass but rather the people they rob, mug and kill to obtain the money for their fix!

How's that bleeding heart swipe looking now?

Imagine if some one planted drugs in your suitcase, then you get searched.

That would take some explanation.
