I am not the most politically motivated of people. this is mainly due to my requirement to align myself with people I cannot relate with and generally despise. I am a grim northerner, living in Scotland but fortunate to have worked hard to better myself and get paid a good wage to live a pretty good life.

I am aware of the various parties but not their policies, the following is my opinion.

SNP
socialists, english-hating. charge the rich to help the poor.

Labour
lets charge the rich and let them pay for the poor to sponge

Conservatives
Elitist chinless wonders, keep the rich rich and tread on the poor.

Lib-dem
ahole who cant pick a side. a wasted vote

UKIP
nutters, a bit fascist. want us to leave europe, chuck out all the forrins.

Green party
aholes.

i have voted for whoever had the funniest name, whoever HADN'T come to my door to pester me and at the flip of a coin. but this attitude has to change, but how?

I like earning my money, and i work damn hard for it, i dont want to give it to unemployable morons. i see this as unfair.

i support helping those who cant help themselves though, the elderly, people with disabilities etc.

So I put it to you all, who should I vote for? why should I vote for them?

please keep it civil.

Cheers
Benzo.

Do some adequate research, most of your party defining phrases are media driven rubbish.
Then make your own mind up.

the issue with adequate research is finding credible sources. the flyers through my door tend not to focus on why a party is good, more that the other parties are bad. if there is a location which is impartial and identifies pros and cons of each party, i'd be interested.

The Scottish referendum was an excellent example of this, lies piled upon slander, from both sides.

If nobody makes you want to vote for them, why bother voting?

Or if someone makes you want to vote against them, consider who is most likely to beat them in your constituency - eg in most Scottish cases this is "hate Labour? vote SNP" or vice versa.

Read a couple of newspapers. Try the Times or the Torygraph plus the Guardian or the Independent. That way you get a bit of balance. I have no idea of the leanings of Scottish newspapers so there may be one title there (e.g. the Scotsman) that can be relied upon, but otherwise you are best to pick one each of opposing flavours. Also watch the TV news.

Which, really, is what you should do all the time and not once every 5 years, if you want to exercise your vote intelligently.

There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago where you could take a questionnaire then it told you whose policies you were most in agreement with.

Can anyone who isn't me find it for the OP?

That was from the previous general election IIRC.

No this was quite recently, but now I can't find the thread. I know Wiggles posted in it too about the obvious SNP policies in there.

It was recent, but it was based on the 2010 manifestos (and then was written with a certain bias in mind)

To the OP. Wait a few months until all the manifestos are out. read those and decide. they are mostly about what the party would do rather than the bashing

But the comparison between them you will have to do yourself, because every one you find will be tainted with the views of the author.

Here's the thread:

According to about six posts down the policies have been updated.

It's subject to the opinions of the person that wrote the questionnaire though.

Bottom line: which one of these do you believe in the most.

The first: Con

The second: pick any of the others (except for UKIP) from a hat.

cheers for this,
i answered the questions honestly and the results were as I expected.

50% UKIP
40% Tory
10% Labour

i need to read up more on UKIP policy, my current opinion of them is very negative, but if i agree with them.....

Tory seems like a wasted vote in aberdeenshire, but there must be more like me out there.

being from a working class background, i feel like a bit of a traitor, but the tories seem like a good option to me.

Thank you all for your help and opinions.

Ben
