Oh gawd. First Clarkson taken from us before his time and then a general election where UKIP achieve not a lot in a few weeks.

I hope The Samaritans get some banner advertising sorted on PH otherwise there won't be a train running in early May.

Lets be honest the last few seasons have mostly been about three mates having a ball at our expense!
Edited for accuracy.
Re-edited you mean. How can it be at our expense when it made a profit for the BBC? It was subsidising other programs.

Reading through this thread it's easy to see how Saville got away with it for so long. Thankfully it's 2015, not 1985.

Perhaps we need a new internet law:

Savilles Law - an Internet adage asserting that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving paedophiles increases".

To be fair to Clarkson. He reported himself and supposedly quietly expected he was getting fired for it. I don't recall any evidence of Jim'll Kiddyfiddle you ringing up his boss and telling him what he'd been up to.

And also i don't recall 1 million fans being made publicly aware of Saville's crimes and then signing a petition to reinstate him arguing that it was all a bit of fun.

I suspect Saville got away with his crimes because by all accounts he was a very clever and manipulative evil sod, not some drunken individual with anger management failure.

If you want a more appropriate comparison, the lack of public support for Jonathan Ross, or Angus Deaton suggests Clarkson is an exceptional case in what sins his fans are prepared to forgive celebrity's for.

If Clarkson was implicated in Yewtree, you'd see his publc support deflate faster than a pirelli over nails. So lets not keep comparing apples with chickens shall we?

I never blamed him. I think the chef was the agent provocateur in all this.

You do know a BBC staffer introduced the comparison, don't you?

So what. Does repeating the words of a moron make it any less moronic?

It's a ridiculous comparison.

As ive said depends on the context

In the workplace yes

Down the pub after work doubtful
disagree

It absolutely does not depend on the context.

Even your example of "darn the pub" after work is just as completely unacceptable. If I was down the pub after work and my boss decided to punch me in the face, that would be his swan song.

I really don't get why some people think that its OK to punch someone in the face and they are expected to just take it as normal

For all the Clarkson bum chums on here, just a few questions:

- Who spent the afternoon/evening getting pissed up in a pub?
- Who delayed the helicopter for over 3 hours at huge expense?
- Who turned up too late for hot food even though he knew previously at what time the chef closed the kitchen?
- Who drunkenly hurled expletives and threw his toys out of the pram like a giant f**king baby when he didn't get his way?
- Who punched a colleague in the face in front of over a dozen witnesses?
- Who behaved in a completely unprofessional manner?

So this is a question.

Is your boss always your boss?

I mean irrespective of location or circumstance?

So if he knees you in the groin in Tesco for grabbing the last packet of chipolatas on Xmas eve... Do you inform HR?

I find it amazing that an intelligent adult would throw such a pathetic hissy fit and actually hit one of his staff but even more amazing is that anyone here thinks maybe he shouldn't have been fired! I like Clarksons childish antics and have enjoyed TG for years but seriously WTF are you people smoking?

I have to work late and it is an utter ball ache getting fed properly. If someone told me they were making my tea and I got home to find cheese and bloody biscuits there would be trouble. Can you imagine coming off shift on an oil ring and been presented with cheese and biscuits? The chef would be thrown over the side.
So if somebody didn't make your tea you'd smack them in the mouth?
I guess you have never worked late.

In a previous life I was working abroad and up to 1100 mile from base living in a caravan, in the middle of nowhere with 9 others working stupid hours. You end up being irritated by everything because you are tired and hungry. To work like that you need feeding and if you are expecting food, even if you are late for it, and it doesn't come, you get rather cross.

I will re-iterate. Like him or not, Clarkson was Mr Top Gear, the show went out to hundreds of millions of people because of him. He was the star of the show. If he wants a steak after a days filming, he gets it. If he want steak after a days filming but stops for a few beers before and is late, you stay until he gets back and bring forth steak. If you cannot do that, then working in hospitality with high profile people is not for you. Try a job at a Toby Carvery instead.

Go on tour with the Rolling Stones and if Mick Jagger wants a steak after a concert you stay and wait until he is ready. You don't flounce off at 10pm, you stay, do your job and cook the steak.
