How do we fancy a Marxist Top Gear with Alexei Sayle?

I SAID WHO WON THE WORLD DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1975!
(That joke brought to you courtesy of 1977)
Anyway. Toads final thoughts on the whole thing.
1.) He shouldn't have done it.
2.) He had to report it because I have mentioned thereis was someone in the production team/BBC liaison, who has been leaking information about the show to the press on a regular basis for some time. If not, how did 'not a teacher nursery rhyme' get into the public domain when it was an outtake and not broadcast?
He had to go to the bosses as he knew they would go to the press with it blown up to be a much greater crime.
3.) There are people and some of them are very senior, at the BBC who are very glad that this has happened. They couldn't bear TG and fame that it generated for Clarkson & Co. The timing for them is very fortunate as if Mr Ed secures victory it means they have a clean slate with the only right-wing comedian (and therefore conduit for anti left-wing criticism) banished.
Of course, they haven't stopped to think that along with Doctor Who and Sherlock, TG was the only franchise they have that actually makes them any serious money abroad. But don't worry they will totally re-launch it with probably a more sympathetic approach and no one will watch it.
If anyone doesn't believe that, the amazing haste with which the Top Gear studio was gutted and cleaned out, would suggest someone has had an exit plan ready & waiting for some considerable time.
4.) I've said before and I'll say it again, Clarkson is clearly in poor health both physically and with his divorce mentally. Ever since the bridge building adventure, I have had the opinion he has been wishing he was somewhere else for virtually every show, especially the trip to Argentina.
So did he punch the bloke deliberately to save all the bother of contract negotiations? Not sure but it would save any awkward questions as to what might be wrong with him. Everyone keeps saying Sky, ITV or Netflix but my thoughts would be that it will be a while if goes back into full time TV. He might not even turn up for the HIGNFY he's booked for. But given the BBCs record for rehiring stars they have sacked for gross misconduct, after a suitable rest (a couple of months in The Priory?) he could go straight back to beeb.
5.) The most important point? Top Gear as we have known it, is dead.
Gone.
Finished
Bereft of life, it rests in peace.
And as far as this thread is concerned, Toad out.
Love this thread, funniest thing on Pistonheads! (That joke brought to you courtesy of 1977)

With reference to Toad's point No 3 above, I was listening to quite a good Radio 4 debate about the whole affair, and one chap (I forget his name) who was an ex-BBC executive type was asked directly if he thought there were numerous people in senior positions with the BBC who held left-wing views and have wanted rid of Clarkson, and he said "oh yes, most definitely".
Clarkspn helps make millions for the Beeb. He's had several warnings previously. Which makes me think that either these senior managers weren't very powerful or they weren't really that bothered about sacking him.Countdown said:

Indeed. And it also took 22 series before their evil plan eventually succeededsmn159 said:

This is JM's time to shine. If he does, he may become a pretty big telly star.
I don't foresee the same outcome for Hammond...
Fully agree about JM - personally I think he was underused in TG.I don't foresee the same outcome for Hammond...
Re -Hammond - I like him but I think he needs an Eric Morecambe for his Ernie Wise act. JC and JM both have stronger personalities.

let's be fair here most of the warnings were bks... seeing as TG does not go out live he got warned for stuff the beeb allowed to go out. Does make you wonder
Yes I've been thinking this for ages! Every time he got into bother, why haven't the BBC got a rollocking for allowing it to go out!Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
