Yes I've been thinking this for ages! Every time he got into bother, why haven't the BBC got a rollocking for allowing it to go out!
Exactly it's edited and reviewed by others before it goes out.

Also the N***** slip was done on one of the 20 takes only the final one went out live and on DVD so how does something which wasn't right get into public eye? Was it the bloke he chinned this time....

I don't think that the bloke he "chinned" had anything at all to do with it. After all, he refused to give any evidence to the police. Third party evidence suggests that they actually get on pretty well.

There are rumours that the union rep threatened to escalate the matter, and so Clarkson decided to report the incident himself.

Union reps are usually a bit "lefty", so I suspect that this idiot was the person who leaked the "eenie meenie mineey mo..." tape.

I googled "BBC union rep's office" and this came up.

To say I'm shocked would be an understatement but, then, this is the BBC....hehe

Very possibly the same person that 'advised' Mr Tymon to go to A & E with a split lip.

If it transpires this union rep has managed to make everyone he represents unemployed then he has followed union tradition and can be gauged as mission successful

The BBC only have to get involved if members of the public complain. They don't know what will cause complaints.

The casual stories are being built upon casual stories! No wonder we can mentally get to whatever destination we want.

1) There are "rumours" a Union person threatened to get involved.

2) Union people are left-wing and therefore bad.

3) I "suspect" this Union person also leaked (why?) the 'Eenie meenie miney mo' tape.

4) Very possibly the person who advised Mr Tymon to go to A&E.

A quite possibly fictitious person to assign some blame to. Brilliant.

Who's going to be the first to 'suspect' that the Union person was an immigrant?

It looks like they ought to employ an internet left-illiberal or two.

In which case how can they expect Clarkson to know and put him on a final warning for not doing so?

His final warning was for unused material IIRC.

You raise an interesting point about him getting in trouble for something they're happy to broadcast, though. 'Slope' being an example. The issue perhaps becomes, 'should the 'central' BBC have become more intrusive and censor Top Gear's individuality to reduce such risks?' And was the alternative to allow them a degree of freedom with the qualification that they're accountable if they go too far?

There's also the potential for the BBC to have had a hypocritical 'cake and eat it scenario' where they were happy for Clarkson to do his more 'edgy' material (assuming they perceived it as quite important to his and TG's popularity), but then were able to pin it on him when it went too far / the wheel came off a bit.

Personally, I don't see why they needed to go near the racial material e.g. lazy Mexicans, 'Slope' etc. Would its absence have detracted that much from the show?

Ah yes, assume that anyone who liked watching TG must be racist. While presumably denying that there could possibly be a left wing agenda against the programme.

Yes, the final warning was for something he chose not to use, which is bizarre, but it wouldn't have been a final warning but for the footage the Beeb chose to air. I could understand it if he were going off script on live TV.
