To be clear, there is a difference between public-sector (or quasi-public-sector) companies and private-sector companies. And, to a certain extent, large versus small companies. Finally, those companies where the "stars" make a huge part of the overall profit are also different.

How we (small, private sector and "star" driven profitability) would deal with this sort of thing versus how the civil service would deal with it are polar opposites.

Ad hominem, much?

(And, no, I'm not accusing you of being a homosexual, so don't worry about that.)

  • Violence is bad
  • Clarkson was violent
  • Therefore ... um ... wait a minute ... violence isn't always bad, AND I WANT MY TOP GEAR BACK!
TG is gone (a BBC relaunch would be a pale shadow). And the chance for these three to do a banter show elsewhere, featuring non-PC blokeyness and free of commercial interference has gone, too.
Take it you haven't heard of Netflix then? No advertisers to worry about, and plenty of non PC content on there already. Including 7 series of Top Gear.

I'll also assume you were too busy welling up with righteous indignation to read the bit where May said there's every chance all 3 will appear again on the Beeb? Or the BBC 2 controller suggesting something similar.

Hardly surprising, four key individuals create winning formula. BBC disrupts formula by creating public hoo ha instead of dealing with the matter quietly and efficiently.

Four key indivviduals paddle own canoe to create same winning formula sailing on a different ship. BBC lose, new ship sails onward.

Cannot help but wonder what other originals from the TG crew will be jumping ship and sailing away.

The BBC would not say whether or not Wilman's decision to leave was related to Clarkson's departure.

Yeah, ok, um...

Oh and the football is crap analogy. That is a "physical" sport and isn't a superior hitting / slapping a subordinate.
There is no line, that is the problem. Each situation has to be and must be judge on its own merit. This includes the individuals and their previous behaviour, any mitigating circumstances etc. There cant be a black and white line!

Oh and football maybe physical but I am pretty sure hitting an opponent isn't part of the rules!

I am really curious about the "superior hitting / slapping a subordinate" remark though. So by those rules this all applies only when it is? Two employees of equal rank can beat the hell out of each other?

Football analogy is a good one to play with.

Suarez got hoofed out from Liverpool by the management for being a bitey prick. Again. For all the world to see.

So why wasn't Ferguson given the boot for, ahem, giving the boot to and causing injury to David Beckham? Behind closed doors.

Surely there should have been a national round up of 'you can't do that!!!' which ended in his non-renewal of contract? Nah, it was just dealt with as part of it.

Heaven forbid you work in a kitchen for any length of time either, as some chefs are f'wing brutal. There's even an interview on the YouTube where a chef working under Marco Pierre White says he had a hot pan of risotto throw at his chest because he didn't like it. Did he whinge? No, he just left. No papers, no investigation, no 300 pages. Shook hands afterwards.

Ever been on a building site and not been coursed? Good luck.

It happens in many industries and it's also pretty damned far from the line of interfering with minors, so you can wrap that one right up.

Hoofed out of Liverpool? Are you having a laugh? He clearly didn't want to continue playing for Liverpool, his dream was Barca. He was never coming back from the World Cup, and Liverpool had no option but to cash in, which they did. I wished I could get hoofed out of my job with a £50 million tansfer.

What utter rubbish!

1. Biting inncident happened on 21 April 2013

2. He was banned for 10 games.

3. He then played for Liverpool until the end of the next season.

4. Sold to Barcelona in August 2014 (which is not being sacked).

So that will be 16 months after he carried out his biting incident.

Yes he faced dire and instant action didn't he!

What I know about football could be written on the back of a postage stamp with a felt-tip but didn't Suarez bite someone at the World Cup in 2014 too?
