Indeed, or, Apple are rumoured to have been making bigger moves with Apple TV recently. They need some quality content on there.
Absolutely agree. The Apple TV has huge potential which it doesn't fulfill. Imagine how many they would sell if they bought the rights to TG! Pin money for Apple to do it.....let's live and hope.

How much did they earn from the BBC before?
I thought it was more than that?
Apparently they earned 500k per season of TG. JC earned double that amount. So the BBC is offering to double Hammond and May's TG income. The Beeb must be desperate.
that goes without saying...

they have just worked out that their £50M+ income stream has been lost (and in reality, I suspect it's a lot more than that)

Methinks the Beeb are trying to divide and rule, they KNOW that TG is basically 4 people, break that team, they can atleast salvage something, because again, they KNOW they are very unlikely to have anything if they do not.

My view? Of all people, May and Hamster will know the level of the Clarkson/Wilman input, if its as profound as it appears, then no way will the pair cut ship back to the Beeb.

but but but it's taxpayers money and we demand not to have our licence fees wasted in that manner - pay them the average wage and let them make do it's the only fair thing <wailing and gnashing of teeth> lmao

I'd imagine that it would be a far more difficult job to put together Top Gear with a guest host each week than it is for HIGNFY.

Some of those filmed segments must take weeks, if not months, to put together.

yes they want to plunder the format for all they can gouge out of the corpse now, I hope them two are too smart to drink from this poisoned chalice but they do a lot of other stuff, would the beeb threaten production of their other shows?

As for the whole guest presenter thing, aside from it being at odds with the camaraderie that's an important ingredient in the show, underlying yet again how much the beeb just don't understand what the shows about; there wasn't the controversy or impressions of ulterior motives/PC cleansing around Deatons exit from HIGNFY, so the guest-presenter format was "acceptable" to the audience.

And like has been touched on, hammonds okay in small doses, mays good but quite dry and nerdy, neither's own creativity would make top gear. Let it go bbc. You were stupid and spoilt and greedy and careless, and you lost it. let it go.

I would be quite amusing if Hammond and May did come back and had Clarkson on as the star in a reasonably priced car! biggrin

I've a horrible feeling Paul Hollywood may be involved in the new show.

And it won't be enough. I would bet money that the numbers presented to the four of them by everyone they've spoken to in the commercial world have had a % attached to the end of them, which is worth a hell of a lot more.

I can see the BBC selling Top Gear back to Clarkson (or at least a Clarkson-led consortium) at this rate, just to get some money.

You've hit the nail bang on the head.

I wouldn't watch Top Gear if it didn't feature Clarkson.

I like the idea of it, I hope May says yes.

I'd like to see Kryten as one of the guest hosts. He was brilliant on Scrapheap challenge.

they won't and it wouldn't anyway

how many times have you resigned/not renewed in support of a colleague clouting another colleague?
I think it's not the Judas name calling is what would stop them re-signing but going back to the show, without the main creative forces behind it might make H & M look a bit thick.

As a side note I was out with an old mate on Sunday, he is a theatre director, the really dull kind of theatre that only loveis and Guardianists enjoy, he had a black eye, the "star" threw something at someone else missed and hit him in the face. When I say star, I mean the person who is acting in it and also working as a rent boy, to make ends meet, I would imagine not Nick Cage. I asked if the actor had been sacked, he almost wet himself, said that if every actor who threw stuff, hit people etc was sacked there would be no one acting...

Nic Cage, is that a consideration of a good or bad actor?
I'm an actor. If anyone gets violent on set/stage the odds are good they'd be gone.

Honestly ?

Even if it turned out to be a really good programme you wouldn't watch it just because Clarkson wasn't in it ?

I would watch it. But, it certainly would not be "Top Gear". Without Wilman and Clarkson It would just be a motoring show from The BBC.

Would anyone watch Topgear without all of 4 of them as a team?

Not really,

AW is "non seen" part of the group, but for sure his input is probably more valuable as any of the 3 other single presenters.
