Jeremy Clarkson is a friend and neighbour of David Cameron.
So hardly any surprise with this.

Because we always agree with our friends and neighbours even when we think they're barking? Grow up.

He has point though. Having lived both in mainland Europe and the USA my opinion is that the UK shares far more values with our European neighbours than with the Americans.

Not really. It's not a particularly valid point.

Our influence in the EU is one of ~30 and we are marginalised as a matter of routime.

Our influence outside the EU will not be 1/30 approx it will be 1/1 exactly.

This country still has a pair even though some of its inhabitants may have shrivelled a bit on too many high octane photoshoots.

You obviously missed Clarkson's cringingly awful on air defence of Rebekah Brooks.

The same Rebekah Brooks who was cleared of all charges relating to phone hacking?

Not sure how it's relevant. Is there a Union with America i'm not aware of, that we might possibly join?

(aimed at much as you as Clarkson).

Many people that drone on at me about leaving the EU advance the notion that it would, in some way, free us up for some kind of closer relationship with the USA because 'they speak English, like us'.

He also currently works for a company that allegedly is one of the ones that benefits from the current tax law that allow legally shifting lots of cash to EU tax havens so not paying too much national taxes on them. If we leave the EU presumably HMRC will be able to get their hands on more of this loot.

To go off on a slight tangent, according to Private Eye that's also why the CEO's of some companies sent the remain letter to the Times, a large number of them benefit from these arrangements as well.

Really!? Bizarre. I've never heard that! It'd be like leaving your abusive wife and jumping into another doomed relationship.

Bizarre indeed, it is if they actually think that the USA is our friend and not simply serving it's own best interests - which is fine, obviously.

You seem quite new here; you'll get used to Adam Ansel's posts. They are part of our fantastic, diverse culture that celebrates all views, sexualities and cultures that he enjoys wink

I wonder if you'd have thought that in 1944?
Do you think it was just the RAF that bombed Germany that year and eventually led to the war being won?
Wonder what would have happened if we'd only had the night shift?

F. good job the Eighth Air Force had a few planes at a handful of bases here with their crews, and could do the job on the day shift, eh?
