Germanwings A320 crashed in France :(
Discussion
Very scary to hear about this tradgedy, very very sad indeed. Especially sad to think that just 3 hours ago, the aircraft was still airborne yet now reduced to a million pieces and spread all over the world headlines.
Thoughts with the passengers and crew, the families and friends, the airline colleagues, the ATC controllers and especially the French authorities and rescue workers who as we speak, are currently making their way to the likely still smouldering crash site.
Must be a terrible thing to be the first on scene of what will inevitably be such a catastrophic scene of wreckage and bodies.
I hope that the investigation is able to determine cause of the accident quickly, in the interests of all families involved/affected.

terrible news
looking at the graph posted of speed/altitude, looks almost as if it levelled out @ 30,000ft, but then started going higher, reaching ~39,000ft which is near to the aircrafts ceiling according to this
Level at 30,000 out of the climb is likely to be to clear air traffic. 39,000 is within the envelope and I have been on a number of A320 (and variants) at 39,000. The graph and data table do indicate that the cruise part of the flight was under control for some time before it went wrong.looking at the graph posted of speed/altitude, looks almost as if it levelled out @ 30,000ft, but then started going higher, reaching ~39,000ft which is near to the aircrafts ceiling according to this

Following the PPRuNe thread on said crash - they really like a punch up on there! Makes PH look gentile.
Yeah but at least they're pilots, so know a little about what they're talking about. On here, it'll be an IT Technician who has read a Tom Clancy book (twice) getting angry because another IT Technician doesn't believe him. OpulentBob said:

Feel sorry for the Mods on Pprune, that thread would be twice as long if it wasn't for their swift editing of all the carp being spouted.

is the A320 not normally a safe aircraft to Fly? have flown many times with Germanwings there our company's preferred choice
If there's one thing that watching many episodes of Air Crash Investigation has taught me, its that for a plane to crash requires a combination of at least 3 things going wrong simultaneously to create such a situation. Such is the relative normal safety of flying, that statistically you'd have to fly every day for 20 years before being involved in a crash.TO answer the question, the A320 is, like the 737, one of the worlds most flown workhorses of the sky, and consequently is very safe

Too busy in the cockpit trying to fix stuff?
Doubt it. Ever since Eastern 401 in the 70s when exactly that did happen it has been taught that someone is always assigned to maintain watch. Witness in the nearby village says that she saw the aircraft dissapear behind a ridge followed by an explosion an a column of smoke. Then, she said, a pair of jet fighters overflew the village.
Maybe the lack of comms and the unauthorised decent triggered an interception by the airforce? They would have followed it right down.

That would be a stunning piece of news, as French authorities haven't mentioned fighters being scrambled. Obviously it's highly unlikely they would have been the cause of the incident, but it won't stop some people...Maybe the lack of comms and the unauthorised decent triggered an interception by the airforce?
