Germanwings A320 crashed in France :(
Discussion
A witness tells AP he heard the plane making curious noises shortly before it crashed.
Pierre Polizzi, the owner of a campground near the crash site, says:
"At 11.30, I heard a series of loud noises in the air. There are often fighter jets flying over, so I thought it sounded just like that. I looked outside, but I couldn't see any fighter planes. The noise I heard was long — like 8 seconds — as if the plane was going more slowly than a military plane speed. There was another long noise after about 30 seconds".

Witness in the nearby village says that she saw the aircraft dissapear behind a ridge followed by an explosion an a column of smoke. Then, she said, a pair of jet fighters overflew the village.
Maybe the lack of comms and the unauthorised decent triggered an interception by the airforce? They would have followed it right down.

"It was a beautiful day, very sunny. The mountain is very steep, and there are no people living there - I can confirm that.
It was the only aircraft near me. Then two mirages [military planes] arrived. So I contacted Barcolenette to see if there was noise, but it didn't fall in an inhabited area."
I expect it it buried somewhere in the thread but what is the exact location of the crash? Anywhere near a ski resort?
Someone told me last week, (I haven't verified this) that recently a light plane had engine failure and had to land on a piste in Avoriaz. Pilot survived but seriously injured a skier.

my thoughts go out to the poor sods who have to now go there and recover the bodies etc. What a job, the scene that awaits them must be beyond imagination.
Trainee airmen from RAF Halton etc were used for the Lockerbie cleanup, imagine that as a young lad straight out of school, unbelievableBoydie88 said:
I fking despise the BBC. Whenever the tts are involved in interviews around tragic events, their sole aim seems to be to reduce the interviewee to tears.
I agree, but its not just them theyre all at it.How do they think everyone feels when their families are shattered by such an event?
The fact that theyre so bloody stupid and insensitive to ask what amounts to a moron question is pretty poor judgment.

yes, but how did they feeeeeel when they heard the news ?Presumably someone somewhere has decided that this is what the viewers need in order to be able to understand what has happened, what with everyone being so short on imagination of what an airliner crashing into a mountain actually entails.
Speculation but, Someone posted on pprune:
MM7168 (NOT the Airbus) squawks 7700 at 09:35 GMT, which is 10:35am Central European Time (Promise!) just to the East in Northern Italy.
The Airbus, started the rapid descent at 09:31 GMT, or 10:31 CET.
Could a mid air collision been possible? MM7168 is an Italian fighter jet
