I agree.........UKIP created a focal point, USP, to rally around .....IMO a new party would need to find a similar USP that enthuses people - NHS Party, Proportional representation party etc etc?
The no gaffes in this gaff party ?
Unlikely if the same core team head up the supposed new party.

I would think if the media delved into any politician's (person's) past they would find enough skeletons to discredit them regardless of which party (walk of life) they are from.....new or otherwise.

Beyond the failure to win in Stoke, Douglas Carswell on QT last night seemed to be saying that there was a gap in the market between Mays Conservatism and Corbyns Labour - he didn't mention UKIP.
This is typical of Carswell. UKIP is a coalition of ideas as are all parties. Carswell has his ideas and would like UKIP to go in the direction that he sees as an opportunity. What he said (said before many times) appears to be his pitch to UKIP. Obviously if it went somewhere he totally didn't want he would go elsewhere, but I think its probably moved in his direction since Farage went... that is away from protectionism and towards small/limited government and minimal/no tariffs.

Pretty sure that up until now he has seen/used UKIP as a vehicle to influence Tory policy, hence his defection. He can influence the Tory party more effectively from outside it.

Labour is attacked by the right wing press. And the Tories go on their merry way destroying the N.H.S and anything else they try to get away with.Yes we are all looking forward to Brexit yes.>smile
I remember watching the news when I was 5 and it was all how the NHS is doomed it's living on borrowed time they ain't got enough doh etc etc, every week of every year since we have had to hear the same about the NHS
Has it ever at any point in time not been fked according to the news, because I don't remember any point in my 41 years we're it hasn't been reported day after day as being broken ears

Problem UKIP face, apart from the usual, is that May is going for sections of the electorate that in part harms UKIP'S chances and that removes, along with the Brexit vote, a significant element of UKIP's USP. For example consider that 33%, iirc the number, who found immigration question a key motivator in the referendum. If the final deal on Brexit looks very similar to the EEA/EFTA arrangement and with significant compromise on our part over freedom of movement then she will risk losing many of that element who have left UKIP to vote Conservative.

True, but I was thinking more along the line of gaffes to come. Like when Godfrey Bloom (no longer a member in fairness) melted down on TV.

They're amateur as can be, they served a purpose but have been consistently shambolic and now that Saint Nige isn't here to bail 'em out who knows where they'll go next?

If Arron Banks sinks any more cash into this pet project he must be foolish.

Fortunately they have an array of high calibre candidates waiting to take on the role.

I'm hoping for Roger Helmer next

There was a somewhat role for Ukip after the referendum, especially when all the talk was of a stitch-up happening. When Mrs May set out her vision of Brexit in much clearer terms, and terms which Ukip voters seem to approve, she stole a huge chunk of any reason to vote Ukip.

So when is Farage coming back?
Reminds me of a great Matt cartoon (in the Telegraph) with 2 delegates at the UKIP conference. The caption was something like "That was Nigel Farage's best resignation speech yet" smile

Nigel shows his true (low grade) colours.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/n...

This is just spreading hate towards our neighbours. Or his wife. Or both.

He is just such a nice man.

Meanwhile Nuttal still got 5000 votes/24% in Stoke. More than the tory. What are these people really voting for?
