Probably not; I'd like to see it down to a point where it can be serviced for less than the GDP of a small country though.

Nobody is ever going to eliminate the debt. There's no point. How many major corporates have no debt?
what kind of argument is that?

Governments/countries are not corporations.

we have NO EXCUSE for running a national debt, none, zero.

The only borrowing the government should ever consider is to pay for big, long term infrastructure projects that have defined costs and payback terms, period.

Borrowing money to plough into public services is laughable, that's not investing, thats just pouring money in, if you can;t sell something to recover its costs, it's not an investment.

It's also arguable that it's the media and certain anti-UKIP elements that have concentrated on immigration and not allowed any debate to progress onto other subjects.

We all laugh at Dan Hodges and some of the twaddle he spouts, but respect to the guy, he has proper anti-racist credentials and suffered life changing injuries literally fighting against racism. Yet consider the amount of bile spouted by these fake keyboard warriors who don't even bother to understand the facts.

The Evan Davies interview was interesting, no agenda from him whatsoever...

That wasn't a debate, the man is an idiot.

Those who would seek to stifle the debate miss an important point, the BNP didn't gain any traction precisely because of what they stand for. UKIP stand for something different, if you can't understand that there's little that can be done about it.

Has anyone here who is considering voting UKIP ever expressed support for the BNP?

If they have I've missed it.

The ones who were in it for the ruck joined the EDL, the ones who were in it for the supposed politics joined you know who.

You can understand the poor dear getting confused, he doesn't even vote rofl

Cloggy, you might want to check which party *actually* has former BNP members before spouting a load of incorrect twaddle...

I believe Mr Farage said he was proud that ex BNP voters were now supporting UKIP at the polls.

So how many times is it you have now posted that particular statement?
To put it into context
a source said:
Speaking at a debate at Chatham House, Mr Farage said BNP voters who had switched to Ukip had been “holding their nose” over what he described as the party's “racist agenda” and found a more suitable home with Ukip.

He added that he had "no truck" with former BNP canidates and that such people were banned from standing for Ukip in the party's constitution.

Is there something wrong with persuading voters who used to vote for extremists, to vote for a moderate centre party instead?

The world and his wife would probably have drawn that inference, if no such implication was intended you should probably be more careful.

Mojocvh asked for proof as it were - is that not proof? Do we have to be careful with the facts now, God forbid.

If so, why, because some people don't like them? Imagine that!

I wonder if they'll stop getting their backs up so easily if I told 'em I'm a UKIP voter too, or maybe not?

KIPPER FIGHT! ranting

I didn't get any answers. Just excuses for the faulty premise.

I hoped you might say that. You've instantly dismissed him, even though he had some valid things to say (eg Rochdale), because you personally dislike him and the way he said things.

Some people see Farage and UKIP as BNP in blazers. A sort of BNP lite whose core message is fundamentally the same but they're better spoken and have fewer tattoos. Dismiss this as much as you like but it's what some people think.

UKIP have taken the debate on leaps and bounds vs BNP. Still a long way to go though.
