UKIP - The Future - Volume 4
Discussion
So where do UKIP go now?
Presumably Farage will want to stay on to play a part (or chuck bricks from the sideline) in the exit negotiation. But it's hard to describe them as "the future". A minority protest party? Fade away? Merge with the Tories?
Or retire to enjoy their dotage on the Costa del Sol?

We have not left yet, nothing has changed, we are still members of the EU and will be for the foreseeable future. We would need a leader with the balls to invoke article 50, and given our current leader chickened out, we need to find a new one of them first and they might not want to do it either.Presumably Farage will want to stay on to play a part (or chuck bricks from the sideline) in the exit negotiation. EU in person of Schultz now saying they want Britain out as fast as possible and not prepared you wait for Cameron's successor before Article 50 declared. What? EU prepared to change / ignore the rules against that which is written in legal agreement in the form of a treaty. Who would have thought that?
Farage has slowly drip fed us what we needed to hear and I certainly do not agree with everything he says but he has influenced many and with the EU he has things spot on..
Its our country not everyone elses and we should all be protecting it for our kids and there kids not cramming it to the point we cant move but all pretending its great!
Its not its been wrecked and now we at least have a chance to start again and learn from our mistakes.

I think it depends on how the exit process goes. My guess is that the Tories elect a Eurosceptic leader, Farage and Carswell get prominent non-cabinet roles related to the exit negotiations, and at some point in the EU exit process UKIP simply folds into the Tories.Presumably Farage will want to stay on to play a part (or chuck bricks from the sideline) in the exit negotiation. I can't see a further purpose of UKIP, beyond helping with the exit negotiations. They should be well equipped to help with the negotiations, having researched our EU membership in great detail, and having so many MEPs. Beyond that, why, now, would one support them? What manifesto would their MP candidates run on? I know they had other policies not related to the EU, but nothing that would give a cast-iron reason to vote for them.
I think they should work out how to fold themselves into the Tories. One could argue that in doing so there is a risk of them losing their left-wing support (many of their supporters are Labour deserters) but I doubt that these people would stay with UKIP anyway - there seems to be no point now.
IMHO, the movement that started off as the Referendum Party (I believe) is now done. Love or hate it, it will go down in history, and this will become a textbook example of how a grassroots movement can start up, overturn a heavily established political elite, and change the course of a nation (and possibly even a continent). Every time someone says "there's no point in getting involved in politics - they're all the same and you can't change anything" I point to this example.

So what year was it wrecked and what was better about it then? If it isn't our country who the fk just decided to get itself back ? I am existentially confused. For our kids? That would be the same kids who by an overwhelming majority opted for remain would it ?
Great job - pound worth fk all, we have become an international laughing stock (except for Trump - deep joy ), we face political and financial turmoil and we have destroyed the United Kingdom. Good job UKIP and all who sail in her. I bloody despair.

In July 2011 the pound was worth 1.10 Euros - after Friday it is 1.23 - after it was inflated to cope with any post vote crash. For our kids? That would be the same kids who by an overwhelming majority opted for remain would it ?

Woooooooooooh!
Look, Just put a sheet of plastic between the mattress and the lower sheet and you will wake up nice and warm.
I cannot believe how some people have so little confidence in their country. The UK has the 5th biggest economy in the globe. It is the fourth biggest military power. You have a fantastically productive manufacturing sector and an even better services sector. You speak the same language as most of the world, and you designed their legal systems.
Why on Earth would you want to confine yourself to a bunch of countries who can barely speak English, and have incomprehensible legal systems?
The British lion has awoken from its slumber. Soon, it shall rise up on its back legs and ROAR.
The hyenas are already scurrying.

Sounds like you may have been watching Zulu , The Great Escape and the 66 World Cup a little too fervently . I read today , with no surprise at all , that the country is in an unprecedented state of economic. political and constitutional turmoil . Why - because a depressing number of people over 50 decided to piss their kids and grandkids future away because they believed those buffoons Johnson and Farage and the xenophobic crap which Paul Dacre peddles in the Mail. So thanks for that . Woooooooooooh!

Regardless of the languages spoken in the rest of Europe, I think we have more in common with them culturally and morally than with (sort of) English speaking countries such as the USA.

I looked out of the window this morning, and I was stunned to see that everything is 100% normal. What makes you believe that there is constitutional turmoil?
I agree that there is a bit of political turmoil, but that is just good fun.

Tbh it's as I said early on the Say no to EU thread, UKIP and Farage have been a pita and it's about time they had a root and branch reform.
Ok I have to hold my nose and admit that without them the referendum campaign might not have been won, ok probably not have been won. But in many ways they hindered and soured things.
Even now Farage is spouting off rejecting the EFTA option as "not what we voted for." Funnily enough Nige, some of us did, and it's despite you and your ilk that t got as much traction as it did, and continues to grow. It's possibly the only / best way to pull this fractured country back together at the moment so just STFU for a while.
